If you need further evidence that rules were meant to be broken, look to Jessica Biel, who brought summery turquoise eyeliner right into the fall season last night at the Museum of Modern Art’s tribute to Tilda Swinton in New York City. To create her look, Biel’s makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua used Chanel’s Waterproof Liner in Jade ($30; chanel.com) along her bottom lashes. “We were inspired by Jessica’s dress from the Chanel 2014 runway, and wanted to create the look of a simplified, modern Egyptian Nefertiti,” Bua said. “I blended the liner below the lash line, outward to a point, and inside the inner waterline.” On a budget? We also love Urban Decay’s 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Electric ($19; sephora.com) and CoverGirl’s version in Aquamarine Ink ($7; drugstore.com), which both create similar effects. Follow Biel’s lead by keeping the rest of your makeup minimal, with slight definition on your top lid, and finish with a tawny nude lip. Since blue and green tones make such a big impact, playing with too many colors at once can create an overdone effect.
Katy Perry has joined the ranks of easy, breezy, beautiful CoverGirls everywhere as the brand’s celebrity spokesperson! This morning, the star announced her new role via Twitter, posting a shot from her gorgeous campaign, where she showcased CoverGirl’s berry-wine lipstick in Euphoria ($8; drugstore.com). “In addition to music, I’ve always considered makeup to be a powerful creative avenue of self-expression,” she said in a release. “I’m honored to partner with CoverGirl and share more colors and textures of my approach to beauty to inspire my audience.” We have long admired Perry’s penchant for trendy makeup looks, and she’s in good company — Taylor Swift, Sofia Vergara, Ellen DeGeneres, and Queen Latifah are also among the beauty giant’s celebrity ambassadors. Stay tuned for Katy’s full campaign, rolling out in the spring of next year!

After a six-year battle with cancer, makeup guru and honorary Cover Girl Talia Castellano passed away yesterday at the age of thirteen. Talia first caught our eye with her amazing YouTube beauty tutorials — namely the clip above, where she created a pro-quality smoky eye without even using a mirror. Her impeccable makeup skills were matched only by her inspiring attitude and sunny disposition, which never faltered despite her illness. The executives at CoverGirl also took note, and during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres and the brand named her an honorary Cover Girl. “We are honored to have known Talia and grateful for all the ways she showed us what true beauty means,” CoverGirl Vice President and General Manager Esi Eggleston Bracey said in a statement. “She inspired millions with her strength, personality and talent. Talia has touched our CoverGirl family forever, and we’re thankful to have been a part of her life.” You will be missed, Talia.

The beauty brand just announced that it will release a full cosmetics collection inspired by the trilogy in November, just in time for the release of the new installment, Catching Fire. We can’t wait to see the rainbow of dramatic hues that are sure to come thanks to the eccentric characters in the book, like Effie Trinket and her Capitol compadres. While there are no photos of the lineup yet, stay tuned for sneak peeks. The brand will roll out previews on Facebook.com/CoverGirl, Twitter @covergirl, and Instagram @covergirlofficial as the release date nears.

We’re all glued to the set when screen sirens like Modern Family star Sofia Vergara walk the Golden Globes red carpet, but do you ever wonder what goes on before the show? We’ve got the dish! “The environment was very light and relaxed as Sofia got ready, ate throughout the day, and had fun with her friends and family,” her longtime makeup artist Kayleen McAdams, who was on hand to get the nominee and Cover Girl ready along with hair stylist Jen Atkin, told InStyle.com. Of the night’s look, McAdams says, “I wanted to do a brick red lip (she chose Queen Collection Lipcolor in Into the Red ($6.99 at covergirl.com), something a little deeper and more interesting than a classic red. Old Hollywood glamour is a trend for awards season, so Sofia and I did our own twist on the look!“ She gave the star the lipstick to keep in her clutch so she could touch herself up throughout the night. And those famous endless eyelashes? Sofia can thank 3 coats of Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara ($6.99 at covergirl.com). She looked amazing!

We caught up with P!nk’s makeup artist, Kathy Jeung, and got the behind the scenes dish on the CoverGirl’s newest spokesperson’s super sexy look at the VMAs last night. A lot of prep work went into the superstar’s beauty style—Jeung showed P!nk 8-10 sketches before the show! In the end fashion dictated the decision, “Seeing her Stella McCartney red carpet dress in person, a glorious column of metallic gunmetal, confirmed my makeup idea: a soft metallic depth around the eyes and keeping the rest of her face soft, glowing and bronzed.” Jeung describes the pre-game vibe as warm and comfortable, “Alecia (P!nk’s given name) usually likes to play music from her playlists, but on VMA day we were blessed with a visit by Willow, so her giggles and laughter were our music!” Jeung adds, “Since we only had a short amount of time for a makeup change for her performance look, we both loved the idea of a red carpet look that I could quickly transform in one or two steps.” Click through the gallery to see her next look!
