While only a handful of guests were invited to see the Valentino haute couture fall/winter 2011 collection come down the runway in Paris today—Anne Hathaway, Olivia Palermo and Amanda Peet among them—the intricate craftsmanship is so clearly visible from the pictures on your computer screen. “Opulence is transformed in a private dimension far from indiscreet eyes,” is how the Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli described the collection, which was full of tulle, lace, feather accents, hand-sewn flowers and sheer elements. Chanel drew a red-carpet crowd for its fall/winter 2011 haute couture show named “Les Allures de Chanel” in Paris yesterday, with Diane Kruger, Elle Fanning, and Alexa Chung all taking seats in the front row. The luxury label’s designer Karl Lagerfeld created a dark, glistening backdrop that looked like Paris’ Place Vendôme for the set, as models walked by in black, silver, gray, navy, and magenta looks.
