Christian Dior’s 1948 Fashion Show: See the Photos

Feb 18, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

Fashion month is in full swing, and to celebrate, LIFE has opened up its vaults to reveal photos from Christian Dior’s iconic “New Look” collection, originally shown in Paris in 1948. Long before runway shows attracted paparazzi and celeb-filled front rows, Dior’s pivotal 1948 lineup changed the course of fashion—ushering in a new decade of  ultra-feminine fitted jackets, nipped-in waists, prominent shoulders and full, calf-length skirts. Go back in time and see photos from the show in the gallery, and visit life.time.com for more.

The Fun Story Behind Rachel Zoe and Anne Hathaway’s Vintage Dresses

Jan 26, 2012 @ 5:50 pm

Not only did Anne Hathaway present her stylist pal Rachel Zoe with the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center’s first Visionary Award this weekthe pair also matched in vintage! Christos Garkinos and Cameron Silver, the co-founders of Hollywood designer vintage boutique Decades, dressed them in a down-to-the-very-last-minute styling whirlwind. “I was at Rachel’s house a few days before and she told me she had nothing to wear,” Garkinos—one of Zoe’s longtime pals—told InStyle.com. That’s when he pulled this velvet look, a piece Gianni Versace designed from the ’90s. “She actually turned the dress around so the buttons were in the front, not the back,” he said. “That’s Rachel for you!” Hathaway, however, needed a last-minute option. “She called me two hours before the event,” he said. After trying nine looks, Hathaway went with a black silk chiffon haute couture Christian Dior gown. “I had no idea which one she was going to pick, but when she showed up she looked so amazing.” So, what made these dresses stand out? “The great thing about what we do is that vintage is has a sense of modernity,” he said. “They felt so chic and right on and that’s the true key.” And since they only borrowed the dresses, you can scoop them up yourself by calling Decades at 323-655-0223.
