Jennifer Lopez stopped by a Los Angeles Best Buy on Monday to celebrate the launch of her new album and she decided show some skin for the event! The American Idol judge and mother of two bared her abs in a black taffeta oxidized beaded bandeau by Christian Cota, which she paired with Tibi pants, a Topshop jacket, and Jimmy Choo heels. We caught up with Cota (inset), the designer behind her top, to find out if it’s available, and as it turns out, it is a one-of-a-kind piece developed for his spring 2011 collection. The New York designer thought it looked great on her because it balanced “the femininity and strength she always exudes,” he told InStyle. While this particular top is unique, tell us, would you ever wear a belly-baring look like Jennifer Lopez?
Christian Cota was inspired by a recent trip he took hiking Mt. Etna in Sicily for his fall 2011 collection. “It’s very warm at the top, but then when you go down and it’s so cold,” Cota told us backstage before the show. “So by the extreme in temperatures I was inspired.” The collection played off this hot-and-cold notion, layered with lots of neutral tones infused with shots of red, as well as tons of knits and furs—his first time venturing into fur territory (he used fox). As for his palette: “For the naturals and the reds and the colors, I was also inspired by climbing and what you see in the earth when you’re doing it.” He also said his prints were inspired by mountain animals. Christian Cota tells us that his Spring 2011 collection is inspired by “mixed texture and transparency used to express the sense of movement you find in nature. Technology has become a part of the landscape now, and I see this collection as a record of that conversation between the two.”
