Charlize Theron is InStyle’s June cover girl! She’s a star who’s known for her challenging roles and independent choices—and we caught up to find out exactly what she thinks about being single, being a mom, and being happy. “Motherhood was something I always knew I wanted to experience,” said Theron of son Jackson (she adopted in March). “I can only hope to be 10 percent of the mom mine was to me. She encouraged me to be confident and enjoy life. That’s what I want for my son.” As for love: “I’m always open to a relationship, but I’m not putting those feelers out there now,” the 36-year-old said of being a party of one. “I’m not unhappy with it, but I’m not like, Oh, this is so much better than when I was in a relationship.” Next up, she stars as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman, out June 1st. With the fairytale in mind—though the action movie is anything but—we wondered, what’s her happily ever after? “Getting to do exactly what I want to do and not having to explain it to anyone.” Sounds delightful!
