It was a good weekend to be GLAAD! The organization hosted its annual Media Awards on Saturday, which honored positive messages in the media portraying the LGBT community, and this year’s event was packed with stars supporting the cause. Drew Barrymore hosted the Los Angeles ceremony, where she was joined by Jennifer Lawrence (in David Koma), Darren Criss, Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron (in Jason Wu), funny lady Betty White, and President Bill Clinton, who received the organization’s Advocate for Change Award. “I want to keep working until not only the Defense of Marriage Act is not the law of the land, but until all people, no matter where they live, can marry the people they love,” Clinton said during his acceptance speech. The New Normal, Day of Our Lives, and American Horror Story also received honors. #ThrowbackThursday: Charlize Theron Covers InStyle… in 1999!

Mar 28, 2013 @ 12:00 pm

Happy #ThrowbackThursday! To celebrate our favorite hashtag of the week, we’re taking a look back at InStyle‘s 1999 cover starring the lovely actress and activist, Charlize Theron. “Draped in @Gucci at 23, Charlize Theron was as much a knockout in April 1999 as she is today!” we captioned. And indeed, Theron, who’s picked up an Oscar since then, looks just as luminous now as she did then. It’s good to be Charlize!

If Charlize Theron‘s red carpet moment and opening dance number for the Oscars look like they went off without a hitch, it’s thanks to her behind-the-scenes magician, celebrity stylist Leslie Fremar. And magic it was: The stylist teamed up with The Coveteur for Oscars weekend to give a prepping play-by-play, from the fittings to the fixings. And she didn’t withhold any details—including the part about how the Dior dress custom designed for her dance number ripped while during rehearsals at 10:06 a.m., just hours before she had to take the stage. But it was all fixed before showtime! Click over to thecoveteur.com to get all the details on Leslie Fremar’s epic night of styling.

Charlize Theron’s Pre-Oscars Preparation: “Start With the Heart” at TOMS Shoes

Feb 23, 2013 @ 11:07 am

How is Charlize Theron getting ready to present at Sunday’s Academy Awards? “This is how I’m getting ready, start with the heart,” the actress told InStyle.com during a private dinner at the recently-opened TOMS flagship store in Venice. During the height of Oscars weekend, together with TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, the pair celebrated the launch of the third collaboration between the charitable shoe brand (for each pair bought, one is given to a child in need) and the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), which focuses on keeping African youth safe from HIV/AIDS. “Blake, I’m not ever going to get married, but this is the closest I’m going to get to a marriage that actually works,” Theron joked. “Your team and your long-term commitment to us has been so amazing.” And their collaboration expanded: For the third go-around of the limited-edition footwear (in stores and toms.com next month), they created another women’s shoe, and a matching child pair, too—a natural evolution given that Theron’s son Jackson, loves to wear TOMS and the recently-married Mycoskie is planning to expand his family soon. “I think I have every style of TOMS that my son is wearing, yes, and he has these,” she said of the new style, which features the sun-inspired white and yellow CTAOP logo and the organization’s motto, Reach Out, Think Beyond, and Look Within scrawled inside. Theron credits her team for the design; for her, it’s all about the heart of the issue: “There is nothing that moves me as much as having these crates of shoes show up at schools in the middle of nowhere,” Theron said. “I invite anyone to come and try not to be emotional about it. It really is incredible.”
