Before stepping out on the red carpet for Hollywood’s biggest event of the year, celebrities sit for hours in the hair and makeup chair. But even before the big night, they’re getting primped and preened with high-tech facials and old-fashioned root touch-ups. Tracey Cunningham’s Beverly Hills salon, Meche is a must for a roster of stars with the most-wanted hair in Hollywood from Gwyneth Paltrow to Jennifer Garner. Meanwhile, Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres will be dropping by her trusted skincare guru Mila Moursi’s Beverly Hills Skin Care Institute for The Mila Moursi Global Anti-Age Treatment. Moursi says, “It’s the ultimate skin rejuvenation to naturally contour and tighten the skin, stimulate new cell production, increase blood circulation, and create healthy glowing skin.” These beauty all-stars are so indispensable they even make house calls! Anastasia stopped by Julia Roberts‘ house last night for an eyebrow prep. Click through the gallery to see other destinations on the road to the red carpet.

The 86th Annual Academy Awards are taking place on Sunday, and next to the couture gowns sure to line the venue, we’ll also be keeping score of the gorgeous red carpet beauty looks — along with the amount of times host Ellen DeGeneres leaves us laughing out loud, of course. Hollywood’s biggest night and the grand finale to awards season aptly calls for full-on glamour, so each year, stars pull out all the stops to show off a range of stunning hair and makeup looks. Jessica Chastain‘s beautiful red lip from last year’s Oscars still stands out in our minds as one of our favorites — we loved how the blue-based strawberry hue gave her complexion a striking contrast, while her shimmery eye and lush lashes held a sultry, Marilyn Monroe-esque vibe. To gear up for the big event on Sunday, click through our gallery to take a look back at even more Oscar beauty moments we loved from years past!
Everyone’s favorite multi-tasking product just got a sophisticated makeover. The NARS Multiple has long been a staple in our makeup bags for its ability to do just about everything — except the dishes, that is. Its soft, blendable formula makes for the perfect creme blush, but the uses don’t stop there! We’ve been known to dab the product onto our lips, across our lids, or swept onto the high points of the face as a subtle highlight. The new shimmer-free versions, which come in 7 versatile shades, expand the Multiple’s uses even further, and can impart any effect from a sheer wash of color to the illusion of super-sculpted cheekbones. Even better: You can turn up the intensity by applying the product wet, making it even easier to work bold runway beauty trends (orange lipstick, anyone?) in the real world. Shop the products for $39 each at narscosmetics.com now, then click through our gallery to get celebrity makeup inspiration!
From the days of Cleopatra, eyeliner has gone through its fair share of trends—from the iconic cat eye, the smokey grunge look, to a winged eye—and this season it’s all about the liner effect seen in Marc Jacobs‘ spring/summer runway show. Today, eyeliner is all about straight lines and a precise look in unexpected colors and shapes (rimmed halfway along the lower lash line) and InStyle‘s Beauty Director Kahlana Barfield gives you exclusive tips on how you can achieve this new rocker look!
“If your hand tends to shake, hold your eyelid taut so that the skin is firm and it’s not wobbly. It’s easier to draw a straight line with an eyeliner pencil,” suggests Barfield in the video above. “The key to drawling a precise line is really about making sure your pencil is very sharp, so sharpen it before you apply it and that way you get this really clean, thin line,” she adds. Get more details by watching the full video clip, plus shop some of Barfield’s suggested eyeliner pens—including Marc Jacobs’ Highliner gel crayon ($25) and Urban Decay’s Glide-On eye pencil ($19)—just by clicking over to 20th.instyle.com.

One more reason we’ve been looking forward to Friday? A pre-weekend visit from none other than Drew Barrymore, of course! Today, the star stopped by InStyle headquarters in New York City to show Flower Beauty’s brand-new spring products to our Beauty Director Kahlana Barfield. “I absolutely love Drew and think her line is incredible. Of all the people I’ve met and interviewed over the years, she’s, hands down, one of my absolute favorites,” says Barfield. “What I love most about her line is that that there’s something for women of all colors, shapes, and sizes — and you can’t beat the prices!” We’ll say! With each of Barrymore’s new items priced at $10 and under, you can afford to stock up, and even better, each product is double the fun thanks to each of their multitasking formulas. We’re obsessed with the lip and cheek stain hybrids ($10; walmart.com), and the dual-ended liners offer up endless eye makeup possibilities — the all-black stylos hold a volumizing mascara on one end ($10; walmart.com), while another version comes equipped with a metallic shadow ($10; walmart.com). “Drew has been in the makeup chair since she was a little girl, so she knows what she’s doing. I looked in her purse and it was full of lab samples!” adds Barfield. Find Flower Beauty’s spring range at Wal-Mart stores nationwide or on walmart.com, and click through our gallery to see each product up close.
With the 2014 Winter Olympics coming to a close this Sunday, February 23rd, most of the 1,300 medals have already been awarded to some of the world’s best athletes—including USA’s very own Devin Logan (Silver Medalist in Women’s Ski Slopestyle), Kaitlyn Farrington (Gold Medalist for Women’s Snowboarding Halfpipe), Jamie Anderson (Gold Medalist in Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle), and Meryl Davis and Charlie White (Gold Medalists in Couples Ice Dancing). From skiing down the slopes of Sochi, pulling off aerial leaps on the halfpipe, and ice skating in the arena, the cold elements have definitely taken a toll on these athletes, but as Olympians, they have a few tricks up their sleeves. Scroll down to learn about their secret beauty weapons, what you’ll find in their makeup bags, and which lipstick is the best to ice skate with!
For 22-year-old Devin Logan (left), the only obstacle in her way aren’t the slopes at Sochi’s Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, but the wintery elements that she faces, from the cold air, wind, to of course the snow. “I use a lot of Paul Mitchell products to help with moisture because basically the little ends [of my hair] are always getting so fried up,” says Logan exclusively to InStyle.com.
As for 24-year-old Kaitlyn Farrington (right), she faces the same elements on the halfpipe. “For me, I’m really big on sunscreen. I wear it every single day even when it’s cloudy out,” explains Farrington. “I also use Clinique Moisture Surge and that’s just some I found randomly in Duty-Free and it’s gel so it doesn’t make my skin oily and have that weird texture to it, so I just love that.”
We’ve always known that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are one good-looking couple, and their stunning campaign shots for L’Oreal Paris only continue to drive the point home. Reynolds has joined Lively in the role as L’Oreal spokesperson, where he’ll be the face of the brand’s Men Expert skincare line. “One of the many reasons I’m excited to be here is the long history L’Oreal has with their spokespeople, and that pedigree, and just to be in that echelon with those people and their talent, that’s a special honor,” says Reynolds in a behind-the-scenes video at his campaign shoot. “So, yeah, I’m very excited to be worth it!”
We think the partnership is a perfect match — we’ve certainly noticed the actor’s pristine complexion (not to mention his toned physique), and if anyone can convince our guys that they’re not exempt from skincare, it’s Reynolds. Keep an eye out for Ryan’s campaign, rolling out to TV and print publications soon, and shop the L’Oreal Men Expert line now at lorealparisusa.com.
