Inside the Party: Chanel’s Chic NRDC Dinner With Rachel Bilson, Emily Mortimer, and More

“I just think it’s so fun when you do fashion with a good cause,” Emma Roberts told InStyle.com before joining Emily Mortimer, Rachel Bilson, and more for Chanel’s benefit supporting the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) this weekend. Held at the Los Angeles home of art dealer Larry Gagosian, formerly owned by acting legend Gary Cooper, the event raised awareness and funds to support the organization’s mission of saving the earth’s resources and environment. While Bilson wandered around admiring Gagosian personal art collection, most guests gathered pool-side to sip on Champagne and snack on hors d’oeuvres in the balmy night. As the sun set over the magnificent garden, Patti Smith and Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s performed “Because the Night” and “Perfect Day.” Bella Heathcote, who admitted that she squealed when she heard Smith was going to perform, really got into the music, dancing by the side of the stage. After the performance, guests took their seats at long tables covered in white linens under the starry sky to enjoy a vegetarian meal created by Travis Lett of Gjelina. Click to see more.

Chanel’s New Look: Electric Blue Makeup

May 14, 2013 @ 1:50 pm

Karl Lagerfeld presented his resort collection for Chanel in Singapore last week. The lineup revolved around the classic color palette of black, white, and navy, but it was the eyes where you saw color pop off the runway. Chanel’s contributing makeup artist Peter Philips created the electric look—thanks to Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in True Blue—which lit up the eyes against an otherwise fresh, clean face. He finished it off by lining top lids with Noir Intense, a black hue, and swiped on several coats of Chanel’s Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. Daring enough to try the look yourself? Shop the neon color for $30 at nordstrom.com.

Tilda Swinton is Chanel‘s newest spokesperson, and the label just revealed a sneak peek at the star’s debut campaign, shot with Karl Lagerfeld behind the lens. In this first look, Swinton models pieces from Chanel’s Scotland-inspired pre-fall 2013 collection, entitled Paris-Édimbourg Métiers d’Art. “Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Édimbourg collection,” Lagerfeld said in a statement. “She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance.” See the campaign in full later this month—with Swinton in bold tartan and tweed pieces, of course—and head over to chanel-news.com to peep more pictures from Swinton’s shoot.

Watch This: Keira Knightley Plays Coco Chanel in New Short Film

May 1, 2013 @ 8:45 am

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first-ever Chanel boutique, Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld cast Keira Knightley to play Coco Chanel in his new short film to mark the milestone, and the trailer alone is already serving up major style inspiration! The film is aptly-named Once Upon A Time… and tells the story of the designer’s first outpost in Deauville, France. Knightley has been the face of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance for years and regularly showcases the label’s designs on the red carpet, so it’s a fitting tribute to the fashion icon. Once Upon A Time… will debut in Singapore on May 8, a night before the label’s Cruise Collection shows, but you can watch it online that same day on chanel-news.com. Get a sneak peek now by watching the trailer above.

The Odeon restaurant in New York turned into a mini Chanel runway at the 8th Annual Chanel Artists Dinner, when guests including Alexa Chung and Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka wore straight-off-the-runway looks for their night out to celebrate the Tribeca Film Festival. “It’s fabulous to wear Chanel,” said 13-year-old Shipka, who chose look 24 from the label’s spring 2013 show. “It’s truly amazing.” Chung agreed: “It has so much history and class that the clothing feels like that,” she said. Though, wearing Chanel wasn’t a requirement for the evening, which was also shared by Uma Thurman, How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor, rising star Mickey Sumner, and the festival’s co-founder Robert DeNiro. Taraji P. Henson enjoyed the night—pinot noir in hand—in a vibrant blue design by Stella and Jamie. Click the photo to see more.
