Chanel’s Cruise Collection: Our Favorite Looks

May 15, 2012 @ 5:40 pm

It took 16 tents, 480 seats, and three fountains to produce the beautiful spectacle that was Chanel’s cruise collection. Held at the Château de Versailles, the show’s pastel-bobbed and raven haired models walked in metallic lace-ups and heels along the restored Bosquet des 3 Fontaines. Fresh hues ranging from soft periwinkle to rich ruby decorated the 71 different looks in the show, which were accented with luxurious accents like gold embroidery, airy plumes and baroque embellishment. Romantic, lavish and utterly Parisian—the show definitely lived up to its setting! Click through the gallery to see our favorite styles from the new collection.

The tome, carefully curated by art experts Jean-Louis Froment and Françoise Claire Prodhon, provides an inside look at the paintings, sketches, letters, documents, and rare archival photographs that have shaped the iconic fashion empire from its 21 Rue Cambon roots to its surge as a global megabrand loved by celebrities like Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, Jennifer Aniston, and more. Of course, like anything else Chanel, it’s an investment, ringing up at $250. Preview the some of the book’s hidden treasures hidden in the gallery, and shop it online at amazon.com or in bookstores now.

How Diane Kruger Customized Her Chanel Couture Dress

Feb 29, 2012 @ 10:55 am

Now this is a perk of being Diane KrugerChanel customized a couture look just for her! The actress wore a dress from the label’s fall 2011 couture collection to the Chanel and Charles Finch Pre-Oscar Dinner in Hollywood last weekend, a look that had been significantly updated from its debut on the Paris runway. “They took off the sleeves that it was shown with and they made it strapless,” Kruger told InStyle.com of the alterations, courtesy of Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. For an extra touch of luxury, the label sewed thee 18-karat white gold and diamond star-shaped earrings from its fine jewelry collection to the top of the dress. As for how Kruger got such a great insider bonus? “This was just a dinner, so I would never ask them to make me a dress, but Karl is a good friend, so he’s made dresses just for me,” she said. How fabulously lucky.

Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams paired her burnt orange Louis Vuitton dress with a perfect peony-toned lipstick. “My inspiration was a flower!Chanel makeup artist Angela Levin told us of creating Williams’s look. “Michelle looked so gorgeous and delicate in her dress, it made me think of a rose I have in my garden in that very same color.” Levin blended Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paradis, a French rose color, and Destinee, an amaranth tone, together to create the unique lipstick shade. “She was like a flower in a beautiful garden,” Levin adds. Chloe Moretz Got Her Very First Chanel Bags at 14

Jan 18, 2012 @ 11:00 am

When we caught up with Chloe Grace Moretz in October, the 14-year-old actress told us her mother didn’t allow her to buy designer clothes. That is still the case, she confirmed to InStyle.com this month, only with a few exceptions. “No, [I can’t buy designer clothes], but Chanel gave me my first two Chanel purses ever!” the Hugo star told us, shown here wearing a Chanel LBD. “One is the more modern version of the classic one. It’s got the accordion bottom and red interior. It’s beautiful! Then my other one is a little leather clutch. It’s so pretty and so classic. I love them.” So why is she so excited over her new luxury goods? “I love Chanel because it’s so classic and iconic. You can say Chanel to anyone in the world in any different language, and they’ll know what it is.” What a lucky teen!
