Johnny Depp‘s fedoras, layered necklaces, and three-piece suits are getting some major fashion recognition! The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced today that it will honor the actor by naming him Fashion Icon of 2012 for his “personal and eclectic sense of style.” (Last year’s Fashion Icon honor went to Lady Gaga.) CFDA Awards 2011: InStyle’s Hal Rubenstein Accepts Founder’s Award

At last night’s CFDA Fashion Awards, Jessica Alba presented InStyle’s fashion director Hal Rubenstein with the highly-prestigious CFDA Founder’s Award for his contribution to the world of fashion.No man or woman puts together a look with the swagger of Hal Rubenstein,” Alba told the fashion industry crowd. “He was one of the first to shape the way the world thinks about celebrity, and just as importantly, he showed women everywhere how to incorporate red-carpet glamour into their everyday lives.” Rubenstein then took the stage to express his thanks, and touched upon the goal of his 17-year career at the magazine: “To make every woman believe that they can get dressed and look in the mirror and hopefully feel the way my mom did when she saw herself in my father’s eyes.” Congratulations!

CFDA Awards Red Carpet 2011: What Everyone Wore!

The fashion industry celebrated its highest honors last night at the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards. And as to be expected with a fashion event, there were lots of great style moments: Ashley Greene arrived on the arm of Michael Kors, stylist Brad Goreski dressed expectant mother Jessica Alba in Diane Von Furstenberg, and sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen arrived in designs from their own label The Row. Lady Gaga also made her elaborate entrance in a blue wig and head-to-toe custom Mugler, there to accept her Fashion Icon Award. “I can’t believe I’m being allowed in here!” she said as she took the stage. InStyle Celebrates Hal Rubenstein’s CFDA Award!

InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein is in for a treat on Monday, June 6th when he’ll be presented with the Founder’s Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America at the organization’s annual awards gala. With such a big honor—the highly-prestigious award is named after CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert and given to someone who has made a unique contribution to the world of fashionInStyle decided to celebrate early with a party for Rubenstein at the Standard Hotel in New York. Padma Lakshmi, Joy Bryant, Rachel Roy, Derek Lam, Prabal Gurung, Christian Cota, and more toasted his achievement with sips of white wine and champagne. Lady Gaga to Receive Fashion Icon Award!

Lady Gaga’s daring costumes and push-the-envelope outfits are getting some official recognition from the fashion industry! Last night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced that the pop star will be the recipient of its annual Fashion Icon Award during its annual Fashion Awards ceremony this summer (Iman received the honor last year). As for the other awards, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s label The Row earned a nomination for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear, which honors emerging new talent. Nominees for Womenswear Designer of the Year include Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs, and Jacobs will also receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. The CFDA will also honor InStyle’s fashion director Hal Rubenstein with the prestigious Eleanor Lambert Founder’s Award, which is given to someone who has made a unique contribution to the world of fashion.

Nine West has partnered with the CFDA to create Nine West’s Runway Relief Program, which has top models like Coco Rocha (center), Jessica White (left) and Lisalla Montenegro (right)  sporting a limited-edition boot complete with built-in pedometer during NY Fashion Week this September. For every step the models take, Nine West will make a donation to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. If you want to get your hands on a pair of the boots, a limited supply will be sold for $199 on Nine West’s Facebook page soon.
