Emmys 2011: The Impromptu Best Actress Category Beauty Pageant

Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara held a hilarious impromptu beauty pageant when they presented the nominees in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category at the 2011 Emmy Awards tonight. But the presenters didn’t announce what they wore—so we will! From left to right:

Tina Fey in a black gown by Tadashi Shoji; Martha Plimpton in sparkling burgundy Zac Posen; Melissa McCarthy in a custom-designed dress; Amy Poehler in shimmery blue Peter Som; Edie Falco in a one-shoulder Randi Rahm design; and Laura Linney in a chic Celine LBD.

McCarthy ultimately took home the win. “Holy smokes,” she said as she took her statue. “Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever.” After the show, Martha Plimpton admitted it was ultimately her and Poehler’s idea. “The whole point is that we should be up there celebrating each other,” Plimpton told InStyle.com. “If there’s no spontaneity and no fun, then what’s the point?” See what everyone wore on the 2011 Emmys red carpet in the gallery! Full of leather panels, impeccably cut coats and leg-elongating trousers for day and night, Celine‘s fall 2011 collection was brilliantly streamlined. For evening, the label’s designer Phoebe Philo sent long black bustiers worn over sleek trousers down the runway. The collection also featured one pop of pink, and some bright color-blocking. The accessories were made to go day-to-night with high-heel loafers, structured day bags tucked under the arm, and oversize clutches. Click through to see the entire Celine fall 2011 collection.

Blake Lively mixed pops of color for her look at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York last night. The Gossip Girl star hit the red carpet to celebrate her Best Ensemble Cast award for The Town with co-stars Ben Affleck and Jon Hamm wearing a laser-cut purple Marchesa dress with ruffle sleeves, which she paired with bold turquoise accessories by Lorraine Schwartz. British Fashion Awards Honor Shoe Designer Nicholas Kirkwood

Britain’s top designers were honored yesterday in London for the annual British Fashion Awards, including footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood (center) who was named Accessory Designer of the Year. The designer, who is known for his architecturally-inspired shoes, got his start working with Kate Middleton’s favorite hat maker Philip Treacy. Kirkwood’s eponymous line garnered attention last spring when shoe-fanatic Sarah Jessica Parker wore his suede platform shoes (shown far left) three times in one week! His other celebrity fans include Claudia Schiffer (center, right) and Jessica Alba, shown above in a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood sandals. Other BFA winners include Phoebe Philo of Celine for Designer of the Year, Mulberry for Designer Brand, Burberry for Digital Innovation Award, Naomi Campbell for the Special Recognition Award and resounding new it-girl Alexa Chung for British Style. The late designer Alexander McQueen was also honored with the award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design—watch the moving tribute video directed by photographer Nick Knight after the jump.
