The Emmys recognize the talented teams that work their magic in front (and behind) the silver screens. But really, it’s the night for men and women alike to pull out all the stops. We’re talking about A-listers dripping in jewels, flashing all-over sequins, toting decadent clutches and more. Last night, we scouted the red carpet and rounded up the top fashion and beauty trends that will set the style bar for the rest of the year and beyond. Tina Fey (in Narciso Rodriguez) and Zooey Deschanel (in J. Mendel) stunned in shades of blue, Rose Byrne (in Calvin Klein) and Taylor Schilling (in Thakoon) proved that minimalism is still best. In beauty news, Kate Mara and Kerry Washington went natural in petal lips; and Sarah Hyland and Zosia Mamet reminded us that nail art isn’t going anywhere. It may be the first day of fall, but it was all pastels on the red carpet at the 2013 Emmy Awards! From Claire Danes (in Armani Prive) to Rose Byrne (in Calvin Klein), the stars went with gowns in nudes, blush pinks, silvers and even sheer. The trend went as far as the bling as seen by Zooey Deschanel‘s the pale blue Chanel ring that she wore to match her ice blue J.Mendel gown and even Allison Williams got in on the trend wearing a light pink Fred Leighton topaz rock. The pale shades also made their beauty mark with celebrities like Kerry Washington who matched her neutral lip color to her rose gold Marchesa gown, while Padma Lakshmi‘s ’70s inspired eyeshadow coordinated with her light blue Kaufmanfranco gown.
Kerry Washington, Christina Hendricks, Zooey Deschanel and Julia Louis-Dreyfus had one thing in common tonight: They all carried Edie Parker clutches. While we spotted most of these pieces on the red carpet — the brand’s signature acrylic style is hard to miss — we couldn’t take our eyes off the stage when Louis-Dreyfus accepted her Best Actress in a Comedy award with her Veep co-star Tony Hale snapping into character as her loyal, bag-carrying assistant Gary by holding her clutch on stage. The design you spotted on stage is the brand’s Jean style, which all four stars wore in varying sizes and colors. Why were they such a hit? Designer Brett Heyman credits their functionality. “Our unique, handmade clutches complement the gorgeous red carpet dresses without overpowering them,” said Heyman, the former Director of Public Relations for Gucci who launched her handbag line in 2010. “They are practical and roomy, but not cumbersome. But most importantly, the clutches look incredibly chic and cool! Like a piece of jewelry or wearable art.” Similar pieces are available for $995 and more at bergdorfgoodman.com.

Guiliana Rancic showed off her $1 million Forevermark ring for two hours during the Emmys 2013 pre-show, and that was just the start of the 2013 Emmys Bling Ring. The New Girl star Zooey Deschanel matched her pale blue Chanel ring to her J.Mendel gown, while Girls star Allison Williams layered on a 19th-century Fred Leighton pink topaz rock to her cobalt Ralph Lauren look. But the biggest sparkle came from — no surprise here — Sofia Vergara, who accessorized her cherry Vera Wang dress with a 40-carat emerald ring set in platinum. She added on another 21-carat diamond and platinum ring and earrings covered in over 100 total carats of rubies, sapphires and emeralds for a total look worth over $7 million.

Many of them are nominated as well.
2. AHH! LIBERACE IS HAVING A MOMENT
One master showman will pay tribute to another as Elton John is set to perform at the awards show for the first time ever to honor the late pianist Liberace, who is the subject of the HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra. The film has received 15 Emmy nominations, including outstanding miniseries or movie. It stars Michael Douglas (as Liberace) and Matt Damon (as Scott Thorson, Liberace’s lover), who are both nominated for awards. Bonus: Carrie Underwood will is also slated to perform a tribute to the 1960s at the event.
3. NPH RETURNS TO THE STAGE
The host with the most is back again! Neil Patrick Harris will return to host the show for the second time (he emceed the event back in 2009), so you can expect an entertaining few hours if his hilarious turn as the 2013 Tony Awards host is any indication. We hope he brings his Barneyisms!
4. LIZ LEMON’S FINAL HURRAH!
This is the final year for 30 Rock to be nominated, and its going out big! The 15-time Emmy winning show—which aired its final episode earlier this year on January 31—is nominated for 13 awards, including Outstanding Comedy, Outstanding Actress in a Comedy (Tina Fey) and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy (Alec Baldwin). We’ll be rooting for them! Also in its final season? Breaking Bad, which ends on September 29. The series has won 8 Emmys, and is nominated for 13 awards this year, which will add extra momentum to the show’s final act. Click here to see the full list of nominees.
5. STARS TO BE REMEMBERED
A special tribute will be made to the late stars we loved James Gandolfini and Cory Monteith, who both passed away earlier this year.
We’re loving the flirty cutout right below the collarbone on New Girl star Zooey Deschanel‘s Vivien dress by Kate Spade New York. Deschanel paired the A-line style with opague black tights and heels, but you can wear it with bare legs and bright jewel-toned sandals all summer long. Scoop up the look for $268 at neimanmarcus.com.

The competition for Emmy nominations has begun! Two Broke Girls star Kat Dennings (in Saint Vintage Jewelry), New Girl funny lady Zooey Deschanel (in Monique Lhuillier and Saint Vintage Jewelry), and the always-hysterical Mind Kaling (in M Missoni) of The Mindy Project participated in the Leading Actress in a Comedy Series panel, while Veep star Anna Chlumsky and Cougar Town actress Busy Philipps (in Isabella Oliver) stopped by to discuss their shows.
