The American Ballet Theatre‘s Opening Night Spring Gala kicked off the organization’s eight-week spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City last night. Celebrity fans of the ballet, including Lucy Liu (in Vivienne Westwood), Ashlee Simpson (in Alice + Olivia), and Uma Thurman (in Fendi), all adhered to the black-and-white dress code and enjoyed the two-hour performance of eight vignettes before heading to the Dior-hosted gala celebration to try their own dance moves on the black-and-white checkerboard dance floor. The dual color theme continued to the menu, too, which included Portobello mushroom and goat cheese appetizers and vanilla icing-topped chocolate cupcakes from Sprinkles to take home. “It was extraordinary!” Liu told InStyle.com of the night. “To see a compilation of all the best is really fun. I had an amazing time.” And it was all for a good cause: The evening raised $1.75 million for ABT and the organization’s education and community outreach programs. Click the photo for more.
Inside the Party: Calvin Klein Supports Marriage Equality with Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, and MoreApr 18, 2013 @ 5:15 pm
Like the Calvin Klein aesthetic, even the brand’s cocktail parties are streamlined and elegant—the brand along with the Human Rights Campaign, co-hosted a chic soiree to celebrate the advocacy group’s two-year-old Americans for Marriage Equality program at its Madison Avenue flagship store last night, and many loyal celebrity CK fans stopped by to show their support. “Tonight they lured me upon the issue of marriage equality,” said Uma Thurman, who showed up with daughter Maya Thurman-Hawke. “To me, it’s an absolute no brainer. Hopefully, it will be alleviated soon and everyone will be allowed to marry and divorce equally!” Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka, Andy Cohen, Dan Stevens, and more swung through, grabbed a Champagne flute and a rainbow-hued macaron, and toasted to the cause with Calvin Klein’s creative directors, Francisco Costa (womenswear) and Italo Zucchelli (menswear). “The company has taken upon this cause, and it’s really important to us,” said Costa, shown above with Thurman. “It makes us feel proud.” Go pride! Not only is tonight the biggest night of the year for fashion in Hollywood, it’s also nearing the end of the fall 2013 runway shows at Milan Fashion Week. Prada just showed a gorgeous film-noir inspired collection (shown, right) that took our breath away—appropriate, since we’re also fawning over the best Oscars gowns of all time, which are equally breathtaking. (Who could forget Uma Thurman’s classic but stunning lilac Prada gown at the 1995 Academy Awards, when she was nominated for her role in Pulp Fiction?) Today, Italian designers Emporio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Salvatore Ferragamo will also show in Milan, so keep an eye out for extra-special pieces that skipped the runway when the red carpet starts tonight on ABC at 7/6c. Vote below: which Italian designer do you want to see on the red carpet tonight?

Fashion Week is a chance for celebrities to step out to support their favorite designers—and so many have been spotted at The Tents doing just that! Katherine Heigl sat front and center at Reem Acra, Uma Thurman headed downtown to see the latest from Donna Karan, and Molly Sims and Maggie Grace stepped backstage at Carolina Herrera to celebrate. Director Quentin Tarantino muse Uma Thurman came out to support him for the New York premiere of his latest film, Django Unchained, hosted by The Cinema Society at the Ziegfeld Theater. The movie, which opens Christmas Day, stars Leonardo DiCaprio (as a very, very bad guy), Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, and Kerry Washington in a tale of freedom set in slave-era Louisiana. “None of us are going to forget the making of this movie,” Tarantino said of the cast at the premiere. “It really kind of rocked our world a little bit! And we captured that on film.” Click through the gallery to see more of the biggest parties this week.
Danai Gurira is the newest member of AMC’s The Walking Dead cast, and so far—even though we’ve only seen a small amount of her—she’s been a powerful addition. We were first introduced to her in last year’s season finale, when her only appearance was in a forest, wielding a sword and two very angry-looking dogs on chains. And when we saw her at the Women in Hollywood dinner in Los Angeles (looking incredibly less frightening) we found out there’s one particular strong woman who inspired her role. “My trainer had me watch several films, but he absolutely had me watch Kill Bill,” Grimes told InStyle.com. “It’s absurdly entertaining. I looked at Uma Thurman’s [work] a lot as I prepared for the show. I had some fun watching her. That’s a lot of work she did. It’s no joke.” Tune in tonight to see more of her zombie-fighting skills in action—a new episode airs at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
