First Look: Tilda Swinton’s Chanel Campaign

Tilda Swinton is Chanel‘s newest spokesperson, and the label just revealed a sneak peek at the star’s debut campaign, shot with Karl Lagerfeld behind the lens. In this first look, Swinton models pieces from Chanel’s Scotland-inspired pre-fall 2013 collection, entitled Paris-Édimbourg Métiers d’Art. “Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Édimbourg collection,” Lagerfeld said in a statement. “She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance.” See the campaign in full later this month—with Swinton in bold tartan and tweed pieces, of course—and head over to chanel-news.com to peep more pictures from Swinton’s shoot.

Plus, see our favorite runway pieces from Chanel’s Paris-Édimbourg Métiers d’Art collection.

Take a Break: Watch Tilda Swinton Star in David Bowie’s Music Video

Mar 13, 2013 @ 3:05 pm

David Bowie’s first album in 10 years—and 27th to date—came out this week, The Next Day, and we’re celebrating by playing his new video for ”The Stars (Are Out Tonight).” The music and fashion icon cast fellow fashion superstar Tilda Swinton to star as his wife alongside him in the nearly six-minute short, where they play on both of their signature androgynous looks. (Fun fact: There is a Tumblr dedicated showing David and Tilda’s similarities named Tilda Stardust). Given Tilda’s “push-the-boundaries” red-carpet style, the moments of her in A-line dresses and ’80s white eyeliner in the housewife role are jarring, though it’s entertaining to see how similar they do appear in the moments where they are both stripped of costumes (fast forward to 4:17). Watch the video above to get the full effect, and scoop up Bowie’s new album, out now.

Plus, get style advice straight from Tilda Swinton. Aren’t you curious what she has to say?

What’s the secret behind Tilda Swinton‘s red-carpet style? She’s comfortable in whatever she wears! “I wouldn’t dream of describing my style,” the actress told InStyle.com at this year’s Golden Globes. “One man’s risk taking is another man’s comfort zone. I mean, nobody can really claim to be a risk taker. You just do what you feel comfortable in.” Swinton also said she draws style inspiration from androgynous icons like “Grace Jones and, of course, David Bowie.” Take a look at some of her avant-garde choices above—from left, Haider Ackermann, Lanvin, Haider Ackermann and Yves Saint Laurent)—and see the rest of this year’s Golden Globes arrivals in the gallery.

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards took place in Los Angeles last night, where some of our favorite celebrities opted for the most tried-and-true formal-event colors: Black and white. Charlize Theron chose form-fitting Azzedine Alaïa, Tilda Swinton picked two-tone Yves Saint Laurent, Michelle Williams went for one of her favorite labels in Chanel, and Kirsten Dunst wore a bow-decorated Christian Dior LBD. However, the carpet wasn’t entirely colorless. See what everyone else wore to the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in the gallery now!
