InStyle invited some of our closest friends—Nikki Reed, Emilie de Ravin, Sophia Bush, Malin Akerman, and Erin Wasson included—to toast to the season at our annual Summer Soiree last night, held the London Hotel Rooftop in Los Angeles. “It is lovely,” Bush said of the atmosphere, which included a Gordon Ramsey-designed menu, Starbucks-infused drinks, and a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream bar. ”I mean, what can I get my hands on first? I try it all!” But there was something she had to do first: “I have a couple girlfriends [here] that I am going to hug. That is always the priority, hug the people I like.” Like Bush, the evening acted as a catch-up session, with the stars reminiscing about the days and nights that made summer 2012 unforgettable. Sophia Bush turns 30 today! Matthew McConaughey (in Dolce & Gabbana), Channing Tatum, and Joe Manganiello heated up the red carpet at last night’s Los Angeles premiere of Magic Mike. “What an incredible night!” Tatum tweeted, along with a photo of his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, as Manganiello caught up with his former One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Bush (in an A.L.C. maxi skirt). Meanwhile, the film’s leading ladies Olivia Munn (in Dolce & Gabbana) and Cody Horn caught up at the after-party. Click through the gallery to see more stars at this weekend’s biggest events.
Sophia Bush carries her bag for a cause! The actress teamed up with Los Angeles menswear company Apolis to produce this market tote in support of the brand’s Defend Tomorrow initiative, which funds a sewing academy and provides job opportunities in the community of Saidpur, Bangladesh. “Defend Tomorrow has always resonated with me,” Bush told InStyle.com of why she got involved. And it’s fitting that she produced a tote, as she’s a collector herself. “I own so many bags, and I’m not sure if there is a girl out there who isn’t bag-obsessed,” said the One Tree Hill star. “I think that every girl should have a market bag. I personally carry everything from groceries to clothes to even my little puppy!” The limited-edition accessory, handcrafted in Bangladesh and California, is available for pre-order now for $68 at store.apolisglobal.com.

You don’t need a gown or a date in a rented tux to be the belle of the ball! Kendall Jenner, Sophia Bush, Chloe Moretz, and Gabrielle Union all wore prom-inspired updos that aren’t at all cheesy, thanks to a few loose, face-framing tendrils. Try the look yourself by pulling out a few layers around your face after securing your style. Just loosely wrap strands around a medium-barrel curling iron, twisting the curl outward. Be sure not to wind hair too tight, the goal is to create touchable waves, not tight, structured ringlets. And hairspray is optional—as your tendrils become more undone, a new, prom queen-worthy look takes shape.

Dress up your next ponytail in five seconds flat by pulling your strands over your ears like Sofia Vergara, Hailee Steinfeld, Sophia Bush, and Victoria Justice. The look can vary ever so slightly—Bush and Vergara untucked a few loose waves in the front, while Steinfeld and Justice kept every piece perfectly in place. When you try this hairstyle at home, remember: A drop of shine serum (like Josie Maran’s argan oil, $30 at sephora.com) before fastening your ponytail with an elastic will keep strands looking fabulously smooth and in ear-covering place.
