Happy Birthday, Shailene Woodley! The young star celebrates her 22nd year today, and we’re predicting it’s going to be one of her most memorable one’s to date thanks to her upcoming role as Tris Prior in the film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s wildly popular young adult novel, Divergent. And while this isn’t her first big role — she earned a Golden Globe nod starring opposite George Clooney in the Oscar-nominated film The Descendants – it’s her first major studio film in which she’ll play the lead. With Divergent landing in theaters in March, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of Woodley, and we can’t wait. So in honor of what is sure to be a breakout year for the star, we’re taking a look back at her style evolution from newcomer to red carpet regular.
Shailene Woodley recently lopped off her locks for her upcoming role in The Fault in Our Stars, then donated her strands to an amazing cause. But doesn’t she miss her long hair? Quite the contrary. “I love it,” she told InStyle.com at the Elle magazine Women in Hollywood event. She’s actually loving her new cropped ‘do so much, she’s toying with the idea of going even shorter. ”I want to cut it shorter, kind of want to shave it. I think it would be a fun experiment.” We can already guess that this burgeoning trendsetter will be able to carry off a closer crop if she decides to take the plunge!

Shailene Woodley has cut her lengthy hair for an amazing cause! For her role in the upcoming film The Fault In Our Stars, in which Woodley plays a sixteen year-old cancer patient named Hazel, the actress decided to donate her long hair to the Children With Hair Loss charity, a non-profit organization that provides human hair pieces to children with medically-related hair loss at no cost. “There was a time when growing my hair out symbolized something for me, but the power of sharing that choice, sharing the ability to have long hair with someone seems far more powerful right now,” Woodley wrote in a touching post on her Tumblr. “I know what it feels like to have wind blow through my wavy locks, and I am over-the-top grateful I get to share that gift with another.” While long hair has been the star’s trademark, we’re loving her new look — not to mention her generous sentiment. She joins Camilla Belle and Beyonce, who both went for similar bobbed hairstyles this summer. What do you think of Shailene’s new look? Tell us in the comments.

Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller joined director James Ponsoldt at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City for a screening of their new movie, The Spectacular Now. The film is coming-of-age story based off of Tim Tharp’s bestselling novel, and tells the story of Sutter Keely (Teller), a hard-partying popular teenage boy, who falls in love with Aimee Finicky (Woodley), a nerdy girl outside of his crowd. “It’s very human. It’s very truthful and honest,” Woodley told InStyle.com at the Sundance Film Festival. “I think that this film explores what it’s like to be an adolescent today, and I don’t think it’s necessarily for teenagers. I think it’s more of a movie for adults. It explores very realistic things.” Already garnering buzz after a well-received Sundance debut — both Woodley and Teller received special jury prizes for their performances — the film is shaping up to be one of summer’s must-see movies. Click here to watch the trailer, and be sure to catch The Spectacular Now when it opens nationwide, Friday, August 2.

Comic-Con International 2013 kicked off in San Diego this week! So far, it started out strong. Hailee Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield talked about Ender’s Game; Divergent’s Shailene Woodley and Theo James—the stars of the most talked-about YA novel-to-movie of 2014—came out to amp up the buzz; and X-Files fans went wild (us included) over the reunion of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny reprised their roles for the appearance on TV Guide’s panel celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary, entering the darkened stage wielding flashlights. “The show was so flexible and could incorporate so many ideas that we could do it forever,” Duchovny told the crowd. If only! Click to take an inside look at the convention now. The panels, debuts, and star arrivals will continue throughout the weekend, so come back to InStyle.com on Monday to get the full recap of who wore what and why.
Pegged as the next Hunger Games, 2014’s Divergent is already creating buzz. The film—based on the best-selling YA book series by Veronica Roth—is one of the most anticipated movies of Comic Con, where stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz are participating on a panel discussion about the flick today. Earlier this week, we caught up with one of the film’s stars Ben Lamb at the New York premiere of Red 2, where the British actor weighed in on the bubbling anticipation. “I’m really excited to see how it looks,” he told InStyle.com. “I think a lot of thought and hard work has gone into the visual narrative of the screenplay.” Set in a dystopian Chicago where society is split into factions based on traits, the film focuses on Beatrice “Tris” Prior (Shailene Woodley), a teenager who chooses to leave her family’s group to join a rival one and who must go through a grueling initiation process to do so. Lamb plays Edward, another teen fighting to switch, too. With the film in production, nothing is fully finalized, but Lamb is sure of one thing: the acting is there. “I’ve seen the performances in real life,” he said. “There is all the extra stuff that will come when the movie comes together, and that will be really exciting to see.”
