Selena Gomez is midway through her sold-out world tour, and she’s been proving that her on-stage style is just as sexy and surprising as it is on the red carpet. We caught up with her longtime stylist, Basia Richard to hear the inspiration and thoughts behind her tour looks. Richard, shown inset, told InStyle.com there’s a distinct difference in what she wears depending on the performance, “As a musician, she wants to be sexier and more grown up, as an actress, we keep it softer and more glamorous.” Click through the gallery to hear what she has to say about the inspiration behind her looks on stage and follow Richard on twitter @basiarichard and Instagram @basiamld.
We’re 99% sure you’ve heard this one, but you may not know much about the musician who sings it. The details: Lorde recently snagged the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her hit song’ “Royals,” beating out Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” and Katy Perry‘s “Roar” and it doesn’t look like she’s slowing down anytime soon. According to Billboard, Lorde is the youngest singer to sit at the top of the Hot 100 since 1987, when 16 (and one month) year old Tiffany’s single “I Think We’re Alone Now” took over the charts. So, who is she? Three things to know:
1. She’s From New Zealand
Lorde was born Ella Yelich-O’Connor and hails from Auckland, New Zealand. She has since moved stateside and turns 17-years-old on November 16th.
2. She Signed with Universal Records at Age 12
After she signed a development deal with Universal Records, Lorde went on to release her first EP, “The Love Club” this past September featuring five original songs. Her debut studio album entitled Pure Heroine followed shortly after which includes her hits “Royals,” and “Tennis Court,” along with eight new songs.
3. “Royals” Has Already Been Covered
Back in August, 21-year-old Selena Gomez sang a cover of Lorde’s hit song “Royals” during her concert in Vancouver as part of her Stars Dance Tour.

Today, the Oxford Dictionaries Online added the term “twerk,” along with “selfie,” “badassery” and more than 60 other slang words, to its online dictionary, Time reports. Why now? Time says they have become a symbol of culture as it is today, and we also believe we have Hollywood to thank for their relevance. Rihanna regularly defines what badassery looks like, while Beyonce and Selena Gomez have perfected the art of the selfie. And need we remind you of Miley Cyrus bringing “twerk” into the spotlight with her recent MTV Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke? We may be most excited about “selfie” officially entering the English lexicon, because we think the trend has way more staying power than “twerking” ever will. (Sorry, Miley!) With that said, check out our tips for taking the perfect selfie below.
Loved Selena Gomez’s look at last night’s 2013 MTV Video Music Awards? It wasn’t just her peek-a-boo navy Atelier Versace stunner that has us looking—we loved her matching navy cat eye, too. Celebrity makeup artist Gita Bass was responsible for the look, and gave us the scoop on how to get it. For the singer’s popping peepers, she used Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in 3L ($19; sephora.com) and gradually layered the deep blue liner over and under the lash line, passing the outer corner of the eye to create a cat eye. Bass then topped off Gomez’s top and bottom lashes with two coats of Volume Effect Faux Cil Mascara by YSL ($30; sephora.com). To contrast the navy, she painted the lips a pretty pop of magenta courtesy of Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Orchid ($49; neimanmarcus.com), a perfect complement to the deep navy tones.

Last night at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, Lea Michele and the cast of Glee paid tribute to the late Cory Monteith, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Michele took the stage to dedicate her award to Monteith’s memory. “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we’re going to get through this together,” she said in her emotional speech. “Whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts — and that’s where he’ll stay forever, so thank you guys so much.” Such a fitting, heartfelt tribute. Kerry Washington, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus were among the A-List attendees, lining the red carpet in fashion-forward ensembles.
