Each year since 1988, the super-glamorous amfAR Gala has marked the official kickoff of New York Fashion Week, and last night was the big ribbon cutting! Heidi Klum(in Michael Kors), amfAR chairman Kenneth Cole, and Janet Jackson were the night’s big honorees, and stars and designers alike both turned out to Cipriani Wall Street to toast to the recipients for their dedication to funding AIDS research. “Kenneth Cole, personally and professionally, has changed the lives of millions who have been affected by the virus,” Sarah Jessica Parker (in Maison Martin Margiela) said during her remarks on stage. “And most notably, he changed the minds of those who weren’t, by putting his heart and his soul into amfAR’s fight for the last three decades.” Click through the gallery to learn more about the event and see more star-studded Fashion Week parties!
Who makes the fairest shoes of them all? It’s Nicholas Kirkwood, who received the coveted British Fashion Council Designer Fashion Fund Award in London today. Central Saint Martins-trained Kirkwood took home the top prize—$315,860 as well as 18 months of bespoke mentoring aimed at helping him reach his business goals—beating out a list of talented Brits, including Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Roksanda Ilincic, and Emilia Wickstead. “Some of my clients can literally wear heels all day,” Kirkwood told InStyle.com at the opening of his Manhattan store. “Some girls are so used to wearing heels it’s almost more painful to wear flats!” And with pro fans like Glee’s Lea Michele and Sarah Jessica Parker, he’s been a winner in our books for some time now. Congratulations!

It was all about bold Mary Katrantzou prints for Sarah Jessica Parker, when she and husband Matthew Broderick stepped out in New York for the party to celebrate opening night of his late mother’s art exhibit, Patricia Broderick: Paintings and Works On Paper. The exhibit, on display at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery, presents an overview of the artist’s work from her last decade before she passed away in 2003. Sarah Jessica Parker and Gerard Butler sported coordinating (and equally handsome!) blue ensembles for a press conference preceding the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. The stars were on-hand to host the evening’s festivities, which included performances by Jennifer Hudson, Ne-Yo, and Kylie Minogue, among others. “It’s such a privilege to be part of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Concert,” Parker said of her duties. “I am honored to be sharing the stage with such amazing performers to promote the power of peace around the world.” During the ceremonies, officials from the European Union accepted the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize.
