We’re obsessed with Padma Lakshmi‘s gorgeous look on the red carpet tonight–and there’s a story behind it. When discussing options with her makeup artist, Kathy Jeung, Lakshmi referenced the German model, Veruschka in the ’70s. “So with that as our inspiration, we created a modern version: soft blended bronzing with a pop of pastel color on the eyes and a neutral full lip was another nod to that look of that era,” Jeung told us. After prepping her skin with Koh Gen Do Cleansing Water ($39 at sephora.com) and La Mer Soft Cream ($285 at lamer.com), Jeung applied her foundation with a Stilazzi brush ($25 at stilazzi.com) and the Beauty Blender ($19.95 at sephora.com). first saturated with water, excess squeezed out to leave sponge moist (makeup artist tip!). The shimmery eye is from Christian Dior 5 Couleurs in Stylish Move ($60 at dior.com) and the retro lip is a combination of Giorgio Armani 203 ($34 at giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) topped off with Guerlain gloss in 45 ($34 at sephora.com).
As one of Hollywood’s go-to stylists, Cristina Ehrlich is in high demand, and with the Emmy Awards tomorrow, she’s got her hands full dressing not one but five leading ladies. “I feel very okay to tell you I’ve been working on this since the middle of July,” she told InStyle.com yesterday with a grin, while she sorted through jackets at the launch party to celebrate her collaboration with Jessica Paré and Veronica Beard in New York City. But the early bird really does get the worm— Ehrlich is done with all of her fittings. “All of them are coming together beautifully. I’m in really good shape.” So just who is she dressing this year? That would be Jessica Paré, Allison Williams, Tina Fey, Julianna Margulies, and Padma Lakshmi. And while her lips were sealed when it came to specifics, she did clue us in one what we can generally expect. “I really wanted to go outside of my comfort zone this year and push myself to really do something different with each one of them,” she said. “Jess is in a very different sort of silhouette, feeling, sensibility, and time frame from last year’s Jason Wu. But Allison is still just very fresh; Tina is still very sexy; Julianna is still very chic, and I think with Padma we always have a very specific sort of theme and I think we nailed it.” We can’t wait to see what they’ll be wearing. Be sure to check back here on Emmys night for all of the scoop — we’ll be blogging live as the stars make their way down the carpet.

Kristen Wiig cozied up to her on-screen love interest Darren Criss at the New York premiere of their film Girl Most Likely, hosted by the Cinema Society and Brooks Brothers at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema. The two had little opportunity to chat on the red carpet, but had more time at the after-party at Hotel Americano, also attended by co-stars Matt Dillon and Padma Lakshmi (she has a walk-on role). In the film, Wiig plays Imogene, the just-dumped New Yorker on the verge of a nervous breakdown who is sent to live with her wacky, lovable, gambler of a mother (Annette Bening) in Ocean City, New Jersey after faking her own suicide. ”There is something nice about going home and reconnecting with your family,” Wiig (in Viktor & Rolf) said of the film’s lesson. “I think a lot of people move away from their hometowns. It’s kind of nice to reconnect with it and make peace with it, I think.” Wiig uses her humor to keep this movie flowing, but her mom’s boyfriend (Dillon) and her mom’s new casino star housemate (Criss) are the real scene-stealers. The film opens Friday, July 19. Click to see more from inside this week’s biggest parties.

Padma Lakshmi is a cookbook author, an actress, and now, a jewelry designer, too—and her first collection of PL by Padma Lakshmi trinkets debuts today on HSN. The multi-talented star, who also distributes her culinary line, Easy Exotic, though HSN, will be on the air during the channel’s Spring Fashion event to present her boho-inspired gold pieces, from bead-accented chandelier earrings to a laser-cut leopard-print ring, all priced between $16 and $90. “My designs are most notable for bridging the gap between East and West,” Lakshmi told InStyle.com. “I love the rich heritage and beauty of traditional Indian jewelry, but I wanted to do a line that was more modern and streamlined and sleek without losing the femininity and ethnic influences that run through all my designs.” And she accomplished that, with a range of statement-making pieces (a bold collar necklace) to delicate additions (a pave ring). “I wanted to create something that women would love to wear every day—pieces that work with jeans and a sweater as well as cocktail dresses and special occasions—jewelry that highlights the various sides of a woman’s personality without upstaging her.” Check your local TV listings to find out when Lakshmi will be presenting her collection to you for the first time, and see a selection of pieces on hsn.com now.

Padma Lakshmi (in Monique Lhuillier) brought along pal Susan Sarandon to help her host the 5th Annual Blossom Ball at New York City’s Capitale, which raises awareness for the organization the Top Chef host co-founded, The Endometriosis Foundation of America. The EFA strives to increase recognition of an often-misdiagnosed disease by facilitating training and funding research. Lakshmi is so vocal and passionate about the cause because she suffered from the disease for decades. To learn more about the foundation visit endofund.org.

Top Chef returns tonight! We can’t wait to see what host Padma Lakshmi cooked up for the show’s tenth season (we can hardly believe it!) when she takes 21 “cheftestants” to Seattle to compete. “It’s amazing!” Lakshmi told InStyle.com of the new season. “The women are really strong.” So, in celebration of the latest reality food show round (and fingers crossed for a female victor!), let’s take a look back at the host’s transformation in the gallery.
