As the Cannes Film Festival heads towards its final weekend, the stars are amping up the style! Petra Nemcova (in Elie Saab), Kristin Scott Thomas (in Armani Privé), Jessica Chastain (in Givenchy), and Sharon Stone (in Roberto Cavalli) all turned out to the festivities in stunning designs. The fashion world got punk’d last night when typically-prim stars like Allison Williams, Anne Hathaway, and Ginnifer Goodwin added edge to their style in honor of the Met Gala’s 2013 theme, Punk: Chaos to Couture. But nobody got into the spirit quite like the evening’s original rebels, Madonna and Debbie Harry. Madge kicked things off in true punk form pairing Givenchy‘s spikes, fishnet, and tartan (dog collar included!), while Harry kept things decidedly badass in draped chains, sheer panels, and black shades, naturally. The week only just ended, but we’re already looking back at what a colorful week our editors had! We posted snaps from Diane von Furstenberg‘s neon pink fall collection, Balenciaga’s green-tinged floral fragrance launch, and Daniel Vosovic‘s cool-girl presentation with pops of red. A bright Monday to Friday indeed! See more of this week’s best photos in the gallery, and stay up-to-date with all of our chic shots by following us at @instylemagazine on Instagram.
Rihanna‘s “Diamonds World Tour” launched Friday in Buffalo, New York—and to shine bright, she looked to Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci to create her opening looks! Tisci, who counts Rooney Mara, Mila Kunis, and Liv Tyler among his fans, designed a floor-length ruffled silk crepe cape (left), embellished with 3D collar embroidery, for the singer. When she drops that topper, it reveals three pieces underneath (right), including a parka printed with a silver target and stars on its back. “Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy, and pure beauty,” Tisci said in a statement. “She is the face of her generation.” And that face gets the most special customization: the golden bullets on the cuff of her hood have “RiRi” inscribed on them, and her complete second look is covered in dozens of black Swarvoski crystals. “Like diamonds in the sky,” indeed. Anyone who considers florals too feminine, think again! For fall, Givenchy‘s Riccardo Tisci presented a bouquet of anything-but-precious designs that blended nature prints with tough leather and plaid. And there were more surprising pairings, like flowing maxiskirts layered with chunky knits. Though, nothing encapsulated the collection’s playful vibe quite like the quirky toppers, some of which featured Bambi cartoons. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
Paris Fashion Week is happening now, and we have your behind-the-scenes pass to all the best clothes, makeup, stars, and more that our editors spotted while enjoying the French capitol. Some highights: Awards season darlings Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Chastain took a much-deserved break at Givenchy, Alexander Wang made his black and white Balenciaga debut, Olympia Le-Tan premiered her latest library of storybook clutches, and Lanvin‘s Alber Elbaz presented a butterfly-topped collection for fall. Our favorite looks this week—plucked from our Look of the Day section—happened to represent two of spring’s biggest trends: black and white, and shades of red. Jennifer Lopez was white hot in Lanvin, Miranda Kerr stepped out with a leather Givenchy tote and buckled Barbara Bui booties, Michelle Obama took the Inaugural Ball stage in red Jason Wu, Diane Kruger wore Chanel to the label’s haute couture show, and Rose Byrne wore a draped Balenciaga dress in her namesake color. So who do you think dressed best? Vote in the poll below! More
While some celebrities are ignoring the winter as if it didn’t even exist, plenty are welcoming it with open arms by bundling up in their best winter attire. Jessica Chastain (the woman of many coats) stepped out again in New York City wearing a Givenchy bag, black pea coat, and blue scarf while on her way to another performance of The Heiress on Broadway. Meanwhile, Glee star Lea Michele mixed seasons when she stepped out in Los Angeles wearing a coat and flip-flops.
