Best Leading Actress winner Meryl Streep wore an inky Vivienne Westwood corset gown, while The Help‘s Octavia Spencer scooped up a Best Supporting Actress award in Tadashi Shoji. Comedienne Kristen Wiig went minimalist in a silk strapless Alberta Ferretti column gown, and Michelle Williams kept things budget-friendly in an ivory and black gown by H&M Bespoke. Octavia Spencer’s Red Carpet Designer: ‘She Put on My Dress and Cried’

Octavia Spencer’s go-to designer for awards season is Tadashi Shoji. The Help star has worn his creations to the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the designer is thrilled. “She’s a genuine, nice person,” Shoji told InStyle.com at his fashion show in New York yesterday. “When I went there for a fitting and she put on my dress, she literally cried. I appreciate that she wore my dresses and she appreciated that I designed for her. It’s mutual admiration.” And her faithfulness to him is what he loves most. “She’s getting really well-known, but in the beginning she wore my dresses. Then, the much bigger designers came to say, ‘hi.’ But she’s loyal.” So, does this mean we’ll see the Best Supporting Actress nominee in one of his pieces at the upcoming Academy Awards? “That, I don’t know,” he said. “Surprise, surprise.” Here’s to hoping!
