Keira Knightley Wore Her Wedding Dress Three Times! Here’s How to Re-Wear Your Own Special Occasion DressDec 4, 2013 @ 4:46 pm
Keira Knightley sure knows how to make the most of her wedding dress. The 28-year-old actress re-wore her short ruched Chanel Haute Couture nuptials frock for a total of three times: first for a pre-BAFTA party back in 2008, then during her wedding this past May, and at last night’s SeriousFun Children’s Network Gala in London, accessorizing it differently each time. She first she paired the strapless dress with black tights, then topped it off with a Chanel jacket at her wedding, and recently wore it with a sheer long-sleeve shirt with embroidery along the wrists and neckline. We loved Knightley’s bold red carpet move so much that we tapped into the fashionable mind of InStyle’s Dana Avidan-Cohn (Senior Market Editor/Digital Correspondent) for three tips on how to re-wear a special evening dress. Scroll below to learn some shocking insider tips just in time for the holidays.
Add Leather Accents
Incorporate a few edgy accessories into your look, like a leather jacket or boots, to make the dress look less formal than your traditional evening wear.
Layer With Separates
If the dress has a fitted bodice, wear a fitted sweater over it in monochromatic colors to compliment the hue of the dress. If it’s a cream dress, pair it with a cream fuzzy sweater or if it is a brocade-printed frock, match it with a burgundy sweater to give it the look of being separates.
Bring it to a Tailor
Have the gown hemmed into a cocktail dress or even get the neckline hemmed (if it’s a straight neckline, change it into a sweetheart silhouette) or simply have the straps removed. Also, try changing one aspect of the dress, for instance if it has a belt and replace it with a personal one!

Nobody parties like the stars, so Hollywood’s elite offer the ultimate inspiration when it comes to making it official. Chrissy Teigen (who rounded up an impressive tally of three Vera Wang wedding dresses for the occasion) and John Legend’s romantic Italian wedding was no exception—they exchanged vows in front of 125 guests. On the other end of the spectrum, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds tied the knot in a secret ceremony in South Carolina, away from prying eyes (and cameras). Keira Knightley went for something a tad unconventional, celebrating her nuptials in a sweet knee-length dress already in her closet and a floral crown. From towering cakes to stolen kisses, we’ve compiled our all-time favorite moments to create the ultimate celebrity wedding album.

Happy wedding day, Keira Knightley! The 28-year-old actress tied the knot with her Klaxons keyboardist beau James Righton in Provence, France today, People.com reports. She wore a short dress with a ruched bodice to the ceremony, which she topped with a Chanel jacket and finished off with a pair of flats. She also wore a floral headband around her long bob, which added an extra romantic element.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first-ever Chanel boutique, Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld cast Keira Knightley to play Coco Chanel in his new short film to mark the milestone, and the trailer alone is already serving up major style inspiration! The film is aptly-named Once Upon A Time… and tells the story of the designer’s first outpost in Deauville, France. Knightley has been the face of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance for years and regularly showcases the label’s designs on the red carpet, so it’s a fitting tribute to the fashion icon. Once Upon A Time… will debut in Singapore on May 8, a night before the label’s Cruise Collection shows, but you can watch it online that same day on chanel-news.com. Get a sneak peek now by watching the trailer above.
