In the new biopic Diana, which tells the extraordinary story of the last two years of Princess Diana’s life, Naomi Watts tackles the lead role as one of the most famous women in the world — which includes wearing all of the Princess of Wales’ iconic looks, from her famous sheath gowns to her weekend beachwear. In the film, Watts sports swimwear identical to the classic pieces Diana wore during her famous boat trips, and we got the inside scoop from swimwear designer Melissa Odabash on how she recreated the pieces for the film. Odabash, who made more than 35 swimsuits in various colors and patterns for Watts, found inspiration for each piece from old images of Diana in her swimsuits. “The suits bring back Princess Diana’s iconic looks from her boat trips everyone remembers, every image they have of her on the yacht,” Odabash tells InStyle.com. “I wanted [Watts] to look as close as possible to Diana in those pictures, as they were from the last year of her life.” When designing the suits, Odabash studied old images and worked to create patterns almost identical to the ones Diana wore. “They are quite simple cuts, and swimwear design has come so far—for me, it is important to have a swimsuit that really suits the female silhouette, so I combined her original swimsuits with more updated versions of my own,” the designer says. Odabash also had the challenge of making the suits work for Watts. “It was a lot of going back and forth, as it was also about making [Watts] feel comfortable in the designs as well,” says Odabash. “Some [were] more high cut on the leg and scoop backs, as they would have been cut.” If you’re like us, and can’t wait to see the gorgeous designs on Watts, make sure to check out Diana, in theaters today.

A massive crowd of over 700 people gathered last night to celebrate Giorgio Armani‘s “One Night Only” event at the SuperPier in New York City. The evening featured several events, including the traveling exhibit “Eccentrico,” which features the best Giorgio Armani Privé looks since 1985. “Eccentrico” was previously shown in Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Rome — where the designer also held “One Night Only” events — although the New York layout has been altered with further additions and oversized photographs of several pieces on the walls. Guest like Glenn Close and Naomi Watts reminisced over their favorite Armani looks before being whisked away to their seats at the runway show, which was the main attraction of the evening. Selections from Armani’s favorite couture collections and the entire Fall 2013 Privé show went down the catwalk, accented with special effects from an oversized screen with gorgeous graphics for each collection. And beautiful it was! Famous Armani fans like Leonardo DiCaprio, Olivia Palermo, Hilary Swank, Dianna Agron, Olivia Munn, Martin Scorsese, Leandra Medine, and Renée Zellweger celebrated at the cocktail party that followed the fashion show, making it a truly a special evening for the designer.

Not long after the Issa London for Banana Republic collaboration hit stores across the country, Hollywood’s best-dressed stars like Emmy Rossum and Naomi Watts took their favorite wrap dresses out on the town! The Shameless star wore the blue ceramic printed wrap-tie dress with black cut-out sandals in Los Angeles, while Watts paired her red ceramic printed three-quarter sleeve dress with yellow cork wedges. In addition to their stylish picks, the collection features more safari-inspired prints on Issa’s trademark wrap silhouette, and there’s even a dress similar to Duchess Kate’s sapphire engagement dress! While Watts’ dress is currently sold out, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that more are on the way, and in the meantime, you can shop Rossum’s number for $130 at bananarepublic.com.

The star-studded cast of The Butler headed to the famous Ziegfeld Theater in New York City to celebrate the film’s world premiere. With such A-list power, each of the attendees stood out on their own. Mariah Carey coordinated her sexy Tom Ford LBD with another one of her bling slings, this time opting for a leather studded variety, while Oprah Winfrey looked ultra-glam in a custom peach Theia cocktail dress featuring thousands of sequins in varying sizes and shapes, which she accented with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a full ‘do (though not quite as big as her 3.5 pound wig she wears for the cover of O, The Oprah Magazine). And Liev Schreiber, who plays President Lyndon B. Johnson, brought along the ultimate accessory—gorgeous wife Naomi Watts (in Thakoon). They all caught up inside the theater to watch the film, which stars Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, a White House butler who witnesses many political, social changes and presidents during the 20th century. The Butler opens Friday, August 16.

High above the traffic speeding down the West Side Highway, Naomi Watts (in Chloe), Katie Holmes (in Chloe), Connie Britton (in Karen Zambos), and Anna Kendrick gathered at The High Line in Chelsea for Coach’s Third Annual Summer Party. The public park was transformed into a carnival for the Coach takeover, featuring games, fortune tellers, jugglers, and magicians. And it was all for a good cause: Coach celebrated its announcement to give $5 million to support construction of the High Line and help insure its future. “I’m excited to be here tonight because I think it’s great when a company like Coach does an event like this that helps the city,” Holmes, a resident New Yorker, told reporters before she made her way through the park-turned-carnival. Watts agreed: “I’d do anything to support it, to celebrate it.” Learn more about the park by heading to the highline.org.

London designer Stella McCartney crossed the pond (and brought the rainy English weather with her) to debut her resort 2014 collection in New York City, and more than a few of her celebrity fans stepped out to fete her designs. Cameron Diaz and Jessica Seinfeld arrived to the tented garden space in lower Manhattan, wearing McCartney’s looks, as did Naomi Watts and Amy Poehler who were spotted sipping on the night’s signature rosemary sprig martinis infused with Beluga Vodka. Madonna stopped by towards the end of the evening to lend her support to her longtime friend. Click through the gallery to see more photos.
