CFDA Awards 2013: Why Miranda Kerr Really Chose Her Proenza Schouler Dress

Jun 4, 2013 @ 4:55 pm

Now here’s what we call fashion fate! Miranda Kerr knows a thing or two about picking a winning outfit, and last night at the CFDA Awards, the model hit the red carpet in a Proenza Schouler ensemble only moments before the label designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez were awarded Womenswear Designer of the Year. At an event announcing her partnership with Gillette Venus, we just had to ask why she chose the number, and her reaction to the big win. “I loved the colors, I loved the shape, and it just felt good!” she told InStyle.com exclusively. “I thought it was something a little different, and I liked how the silhouette was really fun.” This marks the third year Proenza Schouler won the award, and Kerr thinks the title is more fitting than ever for the duo. “I really feel like they are inspiring, creative people, and it was wonderful that they were recognized for that,” she added. “It was a very supportive environment. Everyone in the industry was recognizing the hard work their peers have put in, and it was a fun night, too!”

Miranda Kerr’s Stylist Shares This Fashion Tip: “Let’s Not Discount a Beautiful Black Dress”

Feb 25, 2013 @ 2:20 pm

Miranda Kerr is always at the top of our Look of the Day list—and it’s all thanks to stylist Jessica Paster! The woman behind all of Miranda’s major style moments—including the slit-up-to-there Zuhair Murad stunner she wore to InStyle‘s Golden Globes party—also helped her pick out the perfect dress for the Oscars after-parties, and their ultimate choice came with some great advice. “You know, let’s not discount a beautiful black dress,” Paster told us over the phone while skimming couture racks for her famous client. “Because some dresses are not just a beautiful black dress. Some dresses are just gorgeous dresses that just happen to be black.” Especially if the black dress in question is silk chiffon Valentino like Miranda’s! “I think that if you really know your client and you see a beautiful dress, you just know that they’re a perfect match for each other,” Paster added. So remember, ladies: There’s nothing basic about black!

Miranda Kerr on Recovering From the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Nov 13, 2012 @ 12:15 pm

With all the preparation it took for the Victoria’s Secret Angels to get their bodies ready for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (ahem, shown), Miranda Kerr is quick to tell you she’s not stuffing herself with cake, sugar, and treats as a celebration. “To be honest, [junk food] isn’t really for me,” she told InStyle.com at last night’s launch party for photographer Russell James’s new book, Nomad Two Worlds in New York City (Kerr is featured in the tome). “I’m just healthy and I like to be that way. I don’t deprive myself. If I want something, I’ll have a little bit. It’s not like ‘Oh, now I get to go eat a burger.’ It’s more like, ‘Let’s party! Let’s dance!’” And she’ll have more to toast to soon enough—the show airs December 4th at 10/9c on CBS, and Kerr will be watching. “I’m sure I’ll be with all the girls celebrating,” she said. Months of preparation, weeks of fittings, days of rehearsals, and hours of beauty primping all led up to forty minutes hard-to-resist fun for last night’s taping of the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York. “It’s a dream come true!” Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio told InStyle.com of her experience, which was made only so much better by the fact she modeled the $2.5 million Floral Fantasy Bra. “This is most desirable, most beautiful, most known show in the world. Every year it gets bigger and better!” And she’s right, it was big—37 models showed off 65 lingerie looks, sashaying down the runway to live music performed by Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna. The pieces were broken up into six groups—kicking off with Circus (Adriana Lima—ever the ringmaster—opened the show), Dangerous Liaisons (set to Rihanna’s “Diamonds” song), Calendar Girls (with Bruno Mars in the background), Pink Is Us (when Justin Bieber serenaded the PINK crew with “Beauty and the Beat”), Silver Screen Angels (Bruno, again), and Angels in Bloom (closing it out with Rihanna’s “Fresh Off The Runway”). Click through to see the highlights, and tune in to watch the complete show December 4th at 10/9c on CBS.
