Celebrities love to be green! Whether they’re attending an Earth-inspired event (like FOX’s funny girls Hannah Simone and Mindy Kaling did at Grades of Green’s 2013 Verte) or getting down in the dirt to plant trees (like Amy Smart and Emmanuelle Chriqui), showing their love for the planet is a year-round priority . Click through the gallery to see which organizations have them excited about Mother Nature.
FOX’s funniest ladies put their green foot forward at last night’s 2013 Verte, the annual fundraising event hosted by Grades of Green that benefits the non-profit organization’s work toward a more environment-friendly world, including trash reduction programs, environmental education, and recycling initiatives. Mindy Kaling and New Girl’s Hannah Simone were in the Pacific Palisades in California to support the cause, as well as FOX chairman Kevin Reilly, who was the night’s honoree. Mindy Kaling and New Girl Zooey Deschanel (in Naeem Khan) stuck together at the 2013 Winter Television Critics Association Tour in Pasadena, which includes panels and talks announcing news from networks like FOX, NBC, and more. FOX just announced that next season of Mindy’s show The Mindy Project will include a guest appearance by Seth Rogen, who is currently starring in The Guilt Trip. She may keep us laughing on The Mindy Project (on FOX tonight at 9:30 PM EST!), but Mindy Kaling’s loose waves are guaranteed to bring serious glamour. And although her hairstylist Luke Chamberlain drew vintage inspiration from 1970s-era Bianca Jagger, the bedhead texture is timeless and easy to recreate. Just follow these tips!
1. Chamberlain applied the Matrix Biolage Volumizing Mousse ($16; matrix.com for locations) to bring out Kaling’s natural wave, then wrapped small sections of hair in a figure-eight pattern around a curling iron.
2. While her strands were still warm, he placed them in one-inch velcro rollers to set.
3. Once cool, Chamberlain used a brush to loosen the curls and spritzed on Matrix Amplify Hairspray ($15; matrix.com for locations) to finish.

What do you get when you pluck one of TV’s funniest ladies out of The Office and drop her in The Hospital? A version of workwear that’s uniquely Mindy. InStyle.com caught up with Kaling at Fox’s TCA party, where she spilled fashion secrets from the set of her show, The Mindy Project, in which the hilarious actress plays an ob-gyn. “I don’t want [my character] to be the doctor version of me—me just wearing scrubs,” Kaling told us. Together with costume designer Michelle Perez, the star developed an on-screen look she describes as “a mod ’60s style of dressing for work.” Click through for some of our favorite fashion moments (plus more from Mindy!) and tune in tonight for an all-new episode of The Mindy Project at 9:30 p.m. EST on Fox.

“I’m presenting an award to Jessica Alba tonight, and I’m extremely nervous about it,” Mindy Kaling confided to InStyle.com at the Baby2Baby gala this weekend, which celebrated the non-profit’s mission providing essential baby gear to children in the L.A. area. After a little liquid courage, the Max Mara-dressed star of FOX’s The Mindy Project went behind the microphone and delivered a humorous speech of why she really loves the actress and activist before honoring her with the Giving Tree award. We’ve pasted the highlights below:
“If I looked like Jessica Alba, I would not give a crap about clean living. Like, I would not recycle. I would just drop trash on the street and just be like ‘Deal with it.’ I would let other people pick it up. Her husband is so handsome that his name is Cash Warren. They don’t give out names like that unless you are a Nascar driver or the star of CW show, or really handsome. What ethnicity are you even? I don’t know, don’t even tell me because I don’t want to know, I just want to spend time thinking about it.”
