Summer is the season of blockbusters. Ever since Leonardo DiCaprio kicked off 2013’s batch of hits with The Great Gatsby, we’ve been keeping tabs on the flicks that top the box-office each weekend, including Man of Steel, Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, and most recently, The Heat (starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy) and The Lone Ranger (starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer). Click to see this summer’s most memorable premieres.
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are heating up the box office this weekend with their latest flick! Returning to her Miss Congeniality days, Bullock once again stars as an FBI agent in The Heat, but instead of competing in a beauty pageant, she’s partnered with a testy, street-smart Boston cop (McCarthy) to bring a ruthless drug lord to justice. Long before she was fighting crime, the star did stunts of a different sort when she was part of her school’s cheerleading squad back in 1982. Click through our gallery to see her transformation, and be sure to catch The Heat in theaters nationwide right now.
While Monsters University was dominating the box office this weekend, stars of future summer blockbusters rolled out the red carpet to debut their new flicks. Sandra Bullock (in Prabal Gurung) and Melissa McCarthy (in Tadashi Shoji) celebrated their new comedy The Heat in New York City, Kristen Wiig posed with one of her animated co-stars at the premiere of Despicable Me 2 in Universal City, California, and Steve Carell and AnnaSophia Robb (in RED Valentino) smiled for the cameras as they arrived at the Los Angeles screening of their indie-flick The Way, Way Back. The MTV Movie Awards continued in grand tradition last night at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, and there were plenty of stars on-hand to take in the most outrageous awards show in cinema. Harry Potter star Emma Watson (in Maxime Simoëns) took home MTV’s Trailblazer Award, and as she accepted the gilded popcorn statue, she got a little emotional. “You have supported me in all of my awkwardness and allowed me to grow into the kind of actress and person that I hope to be,” Watson told the audience. “Becoming yourself is really hard and confusing, and it’s a process.” Bradley Cooper accepted the award for Best Male Performance for his work in Silver Linings Playbook from presenter Melissa McCarthy, and Django Unchained stars Jaime Foxx and Kerry Washington (in Michael Kors) had a reunion backstage. Not only did Amy Poehler and Melissa McCarthy both earn Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category, they also both got styling advice from their kids! “This is a $2 ring from my child,” the Parks and Recreation star said on the red carpet. “He told me to wear it, so I did!” Meanwhile, McCarthy also wore a sparkling pink ring on directive from her daughters Vivian and Georgette. We love their personal touches—maybe children make the best stylists!

Melissa McCarthy turns 42 today! The funny girl has won an Emmy winner (for her role as Molly on CBS’s Mike and Molly) and an Oscar nominee (for her hilarious turn in Bridesmaids). Jennifer Lopez and the cast of Bridesmaids are heading to the Oscars! The Academy just named Lopez as the latest presenter at the 84th Academy Awards, THR reports, while Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper and Wendi McLendon-Covey were revealed as presenters last week. We can’t wait to see what they wear onstage!
