Julianne Moore and Chloe Moretz were a sight to see at last night’s premiere of their film, Carrie, at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood: Moore, in a white draped Givenchy dress, was joined by her on-screen daughter wearing a sheer forest-green Valentino gown. Unlike their characters in the update to Stephen King’s horror tale, the actresses looked very much like a loving mother-daughter duo! In the film, Moretz plays Carrie White, a shy high-schooler who is both bullied by her classmates and abused by her overpowering mother (Moore), and soon discovers she has telekinetic powers. Kimberly Peirce directed the film — the second film adaptation following the 1976 version — which opens in theaters on October 18th.

You’ve never seen a love story quite like Don Jon, opening nationwide today. The film, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore and Tony Danza, is a classic romance with an XXX-rated twist. The lead character, Jon (Gordon-Levitt), falls in love with a girl (Johansson) and all is well… until his porn addiction gets in the way. (We saw it—it’s not as dirty as it sounds, but it’s definitely dirty and full of chuckle-worthy moments.) The story itself was born out of JGL’s mind—he not only starred in the film, he wrote and directed it, as well. We caught up with the 32-year-old earlier this year when he first premiered the movie at the Sundance Film Festival, and he told us it’s an indescribable feeling to see his vision come to life. His advice? You can do it, too. ”A lot of people have it in them [to do something like this] and are discouraged and it really is a lot about perseverance,” he said. “I had the first seeds of this idea probably four years ago, now it’s here.” Scroll down to listen in on more of our conversation with JGL about his new flick, Don Jon, and catch it in theaters starting today, Friday, September 27.
No one was more excited than Julianne Moore to shoot our October cover at the landmark Glass House in New Canaan, Conn. “Julianne is really into architecture and interior design,” InStyle‘s style director Melissa Rubini said of the star, who snapped her own up-close photos of the space. After arriving, Moore told our crew that she once attended a dinner with Glass House creator Philip Johnson, but later regretted not getting a chance to talk to the legendary architect, who died in 2005. The historic site, which was completed in 1949 and lived in by Johnson until his death, was the perfect backdrop for the cinematic-style pictures that photographer Giampaolo Sgura created. With tracks from French singer Serge Gainsbourg playing throughout the day, the actress danced in the house in between poses. “It looked like she was in a movie scene,” Sgura said. “She was very into every photo and made it easy for me.” Makeup artist Alice Lane also took cues from the cool location when she was prepping Moore for the camera. “My inspiration came from the beautiful surroundings. The Glass House was so modern and clean against the magnificent forest,” she said. The result? A gorgeously understated look that incorporated light concealer (instead of all-over foundation), glossy lids, and a berry stained lip. Want more? The fabulous Julianne Moore is InStyle‘s cover girl this October — for the fourth time! Moore has previously appeared on our cover in March 2011, March 2006, and April 2004. With her film resume always growing and a successful line of children’s books under her belt, the star has come a long way since we first interviewed her. “I feel very much in the middle of my life,” she said. “Being in a relationship for 17 years, having kids who are not babies anymore, living in the house we want to live in, and enjoying the work I do.” Watch the video above to go behind-the-scenes at her shoot, where she talks about her favorite outfit from her feature, her biggest wardrobe splurges, and more.
