Apr 21, 2011 @ 10:45 am

Coach hosted an evening of cocktails in support of the Children’s Defense Fund in Santa Monica last night, and the leading ladies of Hollywood showed up to celebrate—and shop! “I don’t need to shop to celebrate the Children’s Defense Fund,” Jennifer Garner told InStyle on her way into the soiree. “The work they do to advocate for and help children living in poverty in the United States is so important.” Once inside, guests including Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, and Zoe Saldana perused Coach’s new collections, and even Coach’s new classic vintage ‘70s styles for Net-a-Porter.com were on display (Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks walked away with the collection’s crimson shoulder bag). The secret’s out: Those stars who look like they rolled out of bed (or yoga class) glowing and gorgeous? Not necessarily so. “There’s a relaxed feel to this season’s beauty,” says makeup artist Emma Kotch, who works with Kate Bosworth. “But don’t think it’s easy. It’s actually more challenging because you have to soften everything.” We asked pros (and one of the stars herself) to describe how they create a bare-faced effect (from foundation to mascara) on four actresses with a range of skin tones. Click through our gallery to find out how to achieve the beauty look of summer!

Joy Bryant’s Charitable Botkier Bag

May 20, 2010 @ 12:20 pm

Joy Bryant has teamed up with handbag aficionado and friend Monica Botkier on a charitable purse that might just be that perfect summer carryall. The Joy Satchel ($575), made of soft brown pebble leather, features cool topstitching and a detachable shoulder strap so you can carry it as a tote or sling it over your shoulder like a messenger bag. “Inside is a detachable clutch that is the perfect size to take out at night,” Bryant told us. “It’s like three bags in one! I love bags that are hip-slung and this one is made of the kind of leather that ages really well and will get nice and worn and rugged looking.” And the bag isn’t just functional: it also helps a good cause. Fifty percent off the proceeds benefit Oxfam America, an anti-poverty charity where Bryant is an ambassador. More
