In case you didn’t hear: Color is in. And that applies for engagement rings, too—the latest jewelry trend that’s on the up and up. Ever since Prince William proposed with Princess Diana‘s famous 18-carat sapphire engagement ring that turned Kate Middleton into a Duchess, there’s been a growing demand for vibrant-colored stones (engagement ring e-retailer brilliance.com recently launched a new category dedicated solely to gemstone rings). From Olivia Wilde‘s emerald haloed rock to Jessica Simpson‘s 5-carat ruby, it’s clear that unconventional sparklers are having a moment. Click through to see 12 celebrities’ beaus who have shopped outside the box and scooped up engagement rings in unique settings, rare cuts and more.
While Jessica and Ashlee Simpson are the co-creative directors for the Jessica Simpson Girls collection, Jessica enlisted her little sis for another job: Star of the new Jessica Simpson women’s campaign, which Ashlee launched yesterday in New York City. “The dresses are amazing,” Ashlee told InStyle.com on the seventh-floor open patio of the Thompson LES Hotel. She then shared the two boho-looks she’s obsessed with: the turquoise number she wore that evening (shown) and a maroon one she was shot in for the campaign. Off in the patio’s center, guests perused the new pieces while sipping champagne and nibbling on Blue Ribbon mini burgers, pork sliders, veggie crostinis and wasabi chicken wings. Each took one piece home to remind them of an evening as jovial as the hostess herself. For Simpson, her wish list was a little more extensive. “You better give me the whole thing!” Find the Jessica Simpson collection at all major retailers now. It’s off to the races for the Kentucky Derby this weekend, and we’re just as excited for the parade of festive hats as we are for the actual race. If past is precedent, the stars are aligned to show up in creative takes on the southern belle headpiece, a tradition that’s believed to bring good luck. Jessica Simpson is returning to the TV spotlight! Eight years after she starred in the hit MTV reality TV show Newlyweds with then husband Nick Lachey—and following her weekly appearance as a judge on NBC’s Fashion Star—Simpson announced that she will play herself in an upcoming NBC sitcom based upon her life. “I am so excited to work with NBC on a scripted comedy,” Simpson said in a statement. “I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life—so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing!” Let’s hope there will be plenty of “chicken of the sea” moments! Tell us: are you excited for Simpson’s comeback? Vote in the poll below!

After revealing back in July that supermodel Elle Macpherson would not return to host Season 2 of NBC’s reality design show Fashion Star, the network has announced Louise Roe as The Body’s replacement. The British television host is best known as the face of BBC’s The Clothes Show as well as for her appearances on E!’s Fashion Police and MTV’s The City. Macpherson will stay on as executive producer and told Deadline she is excited to welcome Louise to the cast: “I’m really excited by our choice of Louise as host for the second season,” she said. “I think her presence will energize and surprise.” Louise will guide budding designers and their mentors—Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos, and Nicole Richie—as they compete for the chance to sell their clothes to buyers from mega-retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s. It should be an exciting season!
