In honor of Jennifer Lawrence‘s stunning InStyle December cover (out today!), we are looking back at the 23-year-old’s style evolution, where she morphed from girl-next-door to ravishing on the red carpet. Hollywood first caught wind of the actress back when she received her first Oscar nomination at the age of 20 for her role in the drama, Winter’s Bone and since then, she has remained a fixture on the silver screen thanks to her show-stopping performance as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, (which she reprises in Catching Fire, out on November 22nd), to her Academy Award winning performance in Silver Linings Playbook in 2012. During those three years, Lawrence has not only grown in terms of her work, but with her style as well. “Her look is more refined and polished now,” said her stylist, Rachel Zoe. “She’s really come into her own.” Lawrence’s stylist and fans weren’t the only ones to notice her transformation; French fashion house Christian Dior were quick to name her the face of their Miss Dior campaigns in 2012. These days, you can find Lawrence on the red carpet donning the latest designs from Prabal Gurung, Calvin Klein, and of course, Dior. From simple summer dresses to her iconic Oscars gown—which Zoe claims “was a magical moment,” see just how much our cover girl has grown on the red carpet. Surprise! Jennifer Lawrence Dons the Same Dior Dress From Her InStyle Photoshoot for a Red Carpet PremiereNov 15, 2013 @ 1:03 pm
It looks like Jennifer Lawrence‘s latest red carpet look may have been inspired by InStyle! Our December cover star stepped out for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere in Italy Thursday night in the same Dior Haute Couture gown she wore in our December issue, on newsstands today. (Check it out on page 440.) For the 13-page spread, InStyle Style Director Melissa Rubini dressed Lawrence in white-hot couture looks from Valentino, Céline, Alexander McQueen, and this gorgeous floor-length Dior silk gown that Lawrence must have loved so much, she wore it twice!

In our December cover story, the gorgeous Hunger Games star and Oscar winner opens up to writer Mike Sager about on-set antics, crashing on friends’ couches, and why there’s just no motivating her to diet. But there’s plenty more Lawrence shared with us, including how no one hits on her (say what?!) and her first big splurge (we would’ve opted for a new Céline bag — just sayin’). To read the full interview, be sure to pick up InStyle‘s December issue, available on newsstands and for digital download now.
On being a sex symbol:
“I don’t see, feel or experience any of that. I don’t think about it. And nobody’s hitting on me. And that’s okay. It’s really fine.”
On understanding the male psyche:
“Having brothers turned me into a ‘male sympathist.’ I get where guys are coming from. If a girlfriend says to me, ‘He went to Paris and didn’t call me,’ I’m like, he went to Paris! If it was my brother, I’d tell him not to call, just have fun.”
On being a cheerleader in high school:
“We had a rule in my family that you had to play sports. So for me, cheerleading was a less annoying sport of other options, and in my family it counted as a sport. I ended up doing it for a really long time. It was at a time when I didn’t really like much — sports or school — but in the end, in the realm of what I was doing, I liked it okay.”
On not going to college:
“I was lucky enough to find a job without having to go to college, but I understand that’s usually not the case. It’s interesting to think that if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing, I’d be graduating college about now. In a short amount of time, I’ve lived so much, had so many experiences and met so many different types of people and even lived in so many countries. If I had been in school, I’d be learning about the world from books.”
On her biggest splurge so far:
“I’m saving a lot, but the one thing that was ridiculous but that I could afford, was when I was in Hawaii. I had this coffee that was amazing. It cost like $100 to ship one bag home. I was like, ‘I’m just going to do this,’ and I did.”
This girl is still on fire! At the London premiere of Catching Fire, Jennifer Lawrence gave her new pixie cut a polished touch by sweeping her long fringe to the back, and keeping her sides sleek. It’s certainly a change from the low-key bangs she wore when debuting the cut last week, and the sophisticated look was the perfect complement to her sparkling low-back Dior gown. We couldn’t help but notice that the style mirrored the swept-back updo our cover girl wore for her glamorous December feature, pre-cut, and now we’re wondering: Did Lawrence’s InStyle photo shoot inspire her latest red carpet hair look? We’re not sure, but we love it either way!
Would You Get a Pixie Cut? Get the Details on Hollywood’s Latest Hair Obsession Straight From Kristin Chenoweth’s Stylist!Nov 11, 2013 @ 9:15 am
The pixie cut is certainly having a moment! Not long after Jennifer Hudson revealed her dramatic chop last week, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristin Chenoweth, and Pamela Anderson quickly followed suit, and we don’t blame them — the style is super-flattering, and we’re considering making the change ourselves. That’s why we just had to ask Chenoweth’s hairstylist Jonathan Hanousek for his expert tips on what to consider before getting a pixie cut, and how to keep the style on point (like Chenoweth’s stellar vocals!).
“I am loving this trend toward short hair in Hollywood. The reality is that women are sexy with short hair, and I feel like it shows strong self-confidence,” he told InStyle.com. “Almost anyone can wear their hair shorter, but keep in mind that everyone’s features are different and that you need to make adjustments accordingly.” Hanousek recommends picking your most-striking feature, and playing that up. “If you like your eyes, then cutting your fringe just below your brows will show them off. If you have great cheekbones, then drop your fringe just below them,” he added.
In Kristin’s case, she was inspired by Charlize Theron and Jenna Elfman’s short crops, so Hanousek took that direction and kept her bangs long. Also, keep your hair texture in mind so your stylist can tailor the cut to flatter you. “Generally straight to wavy textures work best, but don’t count yourself out if you have thicker or coarse hair,” he noted. A few quick passes of a straightener or blowdryer will allow you to work either a sleek finish, or you can let your hair air-dry so your natural texture can come through.
Hanousek also recommends anti-frizz products, but be sure not to overload as a little goes a long way — especially on shorter lengths. “My secret weapon is Moroccanoil Frizz Control ($34; moroccanoil.com). On Kristin, it adds the perfect amount of weight without making hair feel greasy,” he told us. “I also blow-dry with White Sands Undercover Styling Spray ($21; whitesandsproducts.com). It has medium hold, works on all hair types, and gives you just enough control without being stiff.”
Jennifer Lawrence may play one tough heroine on the big screen, but our December cover girl shows a candid and glamorous side in the holiday issue— out on newsstands on November 15th. Lawrence talks about everything from her workout regime, which she admits that “nothing can motivate me,” to growing up with two older brothers, and that infamous trip up the stairs during last year’s Oscars. “I fell because the fabric of my dress got stuck under my foot. I can’t walk up stairs, ever. In fact, I tripped walking up some stairs just yesterday, and my publicist was cracking up.” In our exclusive behind-the-scenes video, Lawrence kept her balance (while in Fendi pumps) as she took fashion to new heights at the 17,000-square-foot hangar at the Jet Center L.A. dressed in everything from Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Céline, and Valentino, all shot pre-pixie hair cut! Click the play button to get a sneak peek at some of Lawrence’s white-hot couture looks, then make sure you pick up InStyle‘s December issue, on newsstands and available for digital download beginning Friday, November 15.
The gorgeous, talented and often-unfiltered Jennifer Lawrence — who made news earlier this week for chopping her long locks into a chic pixie — graces InStyle‘s December cover, hitting newsstands next Friday, November 15. Dressed in the likes of Valentino, Céline, and Alexander McQueen, the 23-year-old talent talked to us about her distaste for dieting and working out (“Nothing can motivate me,” she says), her desire to “calm down for a while” after Hunger Games wraps, and, well, her hair, telling us during our interview that it was at “an awkward length” and “awkward color.” Which now has us wondering… While the gorgeous photos inside the issue feature Lawrence pre-chop, her hair is pulled back and styled in such a way that it looks as though she’s sporting a shorter ‘do. Did our shoot inspire her to make the cut? We’ll never know, but we do know that J. Law looks amazing no matter the length of her hair, and is as funny and candid as ever in our December issue.
