Ben Affleck on His Family: “It’s the Most Important Thing in My Life”

Jan 9, 2013 @ 12:38 pm

Ben Affleck is more than just a leading actor and director—he’s a family man! “Naturally family is the most important thing in my life,” Affleck told reporters at last night’s National Board of Review Awards in New York City where he took home the Special Achievement in Filmmaking honor for his film, Argo. “I’ve really learned to appreciate this stuff. Family makes any achievements that you’re able to have in your life that much richer.” The actor married Jennifer Garner in 2005, and the couple have three kids together, Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and Samuel, 11 months. And he’ll have plenty more to celebrate with his family this awards season, as the Golden Globes and Oscars are both on deck. ”If it was just me, I’d go home alone and it wouldn’t have the same resonance.

Monique Lhuillier on Dressing Jennifer Garner for the Argo Premiere

Oct 8, 2012 @ 2:18 pm

When Jennifer Garner wore Monique Lhuillier’s red contoured column dress to the Los Angeles premiere of Argo last week, she topped the list of ladies who qualified for Look of the Day—and, according to our poll, was your strong favorite for best dressed celebrity of the whole week! The gown comes from Lhuillier’s Fall 2012 collection, with a twist: Garner removed the belt. “The look had a belt to cinch the waist in, but she didn’t need it,” the designer told InStyle.com at the Hammer Museum’s 10th Annual Gala in Los Angeles. “Other than that, it was straight off the runway. It was very fluid and close to the body, and the leather gave it an edgier feel. And everyone forgets that she just had a baby. I thought she looked fabulous.” We think so too!

No man stood a chance of stealing the spotlight from Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry, and more of Hollywood’s leading ladies who came to celebrate Variety’s fourth annual Power of Women luncheon at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, which honored celebrity women for their philanthropic work. Not even Justin Timberlake, on hand to see his wife-to-be receive the Tiffany & Co. Luminary Award for her work with Charity: Water, could compete. “To be in the company of these incredible women and the charities they represent is humbling,” Biel told the crowd. “Someone told me the other day that the best thing a man can do for his long-term health is to have a wife. And the best thing a woman can do for her health is to have good girlfriends. Standing in this room right now, can’t you feel the power and energy?” See more photos from the inspiring event in the gallery.

You’re going to look at your dinner table in a whole new way after watching Butter. The comedy—starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Modern Family’s Ty Burrell, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone, and Hugh Jackman—lands in theaters today. “I’m just excited for people to see it and have a good time,” Garner told InStyle.com at the New York premiere. She plays Laura Pickler, an aggressive butter carver vying for the top prize, and Wilde plays her competitor, Brooke Swinkowski. “I’m really proud of it,” Wilde told us. “I think people will like it, because it’s so unique, and it’s genuinely funny.” If you can’t make it to theaters, the movie is also available On Demand as well as on amazon.com. “It’s a great movie to grab all your friends and watch together and have a fun night and a butter-theme party,” Garner suggested. What would she serve? “There’s butter in everything good in life, from sugar cookies to chocolate chip cookies to any pastry of any kind—even on top of a steak,” she says. “You can’t go wrong with butter!”
