Isn’t It Nice to Be Beyonce: See the Singer’s $5,500 Custom Sneaker Wedges

Mar 21, 2013 @ 2:35 pm

PMK Customs considers itself the “Maybach” of the couture sneaker world, which is why when Jay-Z and Beyonce wanted their kicks customized, they turned to founder Andre Scott. The brand crafted Jay’s red Nike-striped “Brooklyn Zoo” Jordans out of a hybrid of luxury reptile skins ($2,500), and Queen Bey liked them so much, she asked the designer to put a fresh twist on her Isabel Marant wedges, too. That’s how her creamy “King Bey” shoes came to be, an ostrich/crocodile/anaconda mix stitched together with gold thread ($5,500). “[The customization] mimics the southern belle’s sweet and fierce persona,” Scott told InStyle.com. “They are two very humble and inspirational people, and to have them part of our network is a true blessing.” Especially when the customers are so impressed by extreme attention to detail—Johnson said he had no edits to the specialized pieces. Check out more of PMK’s custom works at pmkcutoms.com and follow their Twitter @pmkcustoms.

Blue Ivy’s Custom Ruthie Davis Baby Sneakers

Sep 26, 2012 @ 12:38 pm

And today from the world of Beyonce and Jay-Z‘s adorable daughter Blue Ivy, we bring you…her custom baby sneakers! Adding to the tot’s collection of Jeremy Scott x Adidas J wings and Marc Jacobs mouse ballet flats, baby Blue can now rock (literally!) a pair of custom light pink leather “Jamie” kicks with $798 worth of amethyst Swarvoski crystals by Ruthie Davis. “Beyonce didn’t have any input on the design. But, after years of designing for and being inspired by Beyonce, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to create,” Davis exclusively told InStyle.com. Glitter-bombed shoes sounds like Beyonce to us! And does this mean there will be a baby line in the works for Ruthie? “I had never thought about making baby shoes before, but anything’s possible. I’m so flattered at the attention they’re getting.” We bet! If you want a Beyonce and Blue-inspired pair for yourself, shop Davis’s bedazzled “big girl” sneakers at Neiman Marcus (for a cool $1,898). Sigh, it’s good to be Blue Ivy.

Bill Clinton’s 2012 Democratic National Convention Speech: Hillary Watches In Support!

Sep 6, 2012 @ 5:19 pm

Well, this is just too cute! Last night, former president Bill Clinton gave his speech at the Democratic National Convention, and doting wife (and our Secretary of State, of course!) Hillary Clinton caught up a little later in the night by watching a replay from halfway around the world in Southeast Asia. This adorable sign of support and affection got us thinking about famous couples who support each other in their endeavors. Brooklyn Decker has been a staple this week at the US Open Tennis Championships while husband Andy Roddick played his heart out in his final games before retirement. And we’re still thinking about how Jay-Z watched in awe on the sidelines as Beyoncé rubbed her baby bump on stage at last year’s MTV VMAs. We just love all these couples!

Love can be a lucrative business! Just ask any of the couples who made Forbes’s latest list of highest-paid pairs: Beyonce and Jay-Z took the top spot this year (their platinum albums and tours raked in $78 million), while Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady came in at a close second, with $72 million worth of modeling and sports contracts. And power couples Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt ($45 million) and Victoria and David Beckham ($54 million) came in right behind them, rounding out the top four thanks to their fashion lines, blockbuster movies, and more. We adore all these lovebirds—their relationships are so strong, even though they’re so busy! But we still want to know: Which super-successful celebrity couple is your favorite? (Everyone has one!)

Kanye West’s Couture Cover Art

Kanye West expresses his love of fashion in interesting ways: The rapper tapped Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci to design the cover art for his new song, “H.A.M.” (above), the first single off his new album Watch the Throne. You’ll notice the artwork includes crowns, stars and daggers, common themes in the designer’s clothing, as shown here on Tisci (center, with Ciara and West), in his jewelry and on the runway (seen at the Givenchy fall 2010 ready-to-wear show at right). Could this be a sign that we’ll hear a shout-out to Tisci in West’s next song? The track, which features Jay-Z, drops tomorrow.

Family time and good cheer? An amazing pair of shoes? Cashmere-lined gloves? (The last one was our personal holiday fave.) Tell us in the comments!

The Forbes 100: Oprah Earns Top Spot, Gaga and Pattinson Debut

Jun 29, 2010 @ 12:10 pm

Forbes Magazine just released their annual Celebrity 100 Power List, which features some familiar faces—and some surprising newcomers. Oprah Winfrey, who earned an estimated $315 million in the past year, topped the list.  Lady Gaga came in at No. 4, earning $62 million after not even making the list last year. Forbes.com cited that Gaga’s success and thus high placement is due to “a mixture of extreme theatricality, catchy hooks and an image that is edgy, yet business friendly.” She also beat out other top-performing pop contenders including Taylor Swift (who ranked at 12) and Madonna (who snagged 10th place). Another newbie? Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson, who placed right in the middle at No. 50.  Other top performers included Beyonce Knowles and hubby Jay-Z (places 2 and 15, respectively), James Cameron (for his flick Avatar) and Tiger Woods. For the complete list see forbes.com.
