First Look: Oz the Great and Powerful

Jul 13, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, and James Franco aren’t in Kansas anymore! The first teaser trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful, the prequel to The Wizard of Oz, debuted at Comic Con this week, and audiences got a glimpse of Franco as a circus magician who gets blown into a magical land, where he reinvents himself as the famous Wizard. Along the way he meets a trio of witches—Theodora, the future Wicked Witch of the West (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda the Good Witch (Michelle Williams)—who may not be convinced he’s so great and powerful after all. Watch the video to see flying monkeys, swirling tornadoes, yellow brick roads, and more. And tell us, are you excited to see the film when it premieres March 8th, 2013?

Plus, see Michelle Williams’s best looks!

At the Sundance Film Festival, we’re catching up with marquee names like Elizabeth Banks and getting to know up-and-comers like Elizabeth Olsen when they stop by the InStyle Portrait Studio at Silver, Park City’s newest hot spot. After telling us about their movies, our guests are treated to pampering lip treatments from Fresh and gifts from jeweler Lia Sophia‘s pop-up shop. And of course, we’re getting plenty of scoop on the cold-weather style essentials the stars are loving this year. “I’m always freezing at this festival,” Dominic Cooper told us. I’m actually wearing a pair of girl’s thermal tights under my pants right now.” Click through to see exclusive behind-the-scenes photos of all the action at the our Sundance studio.

Eat, Pray, Love‘s Costume Designer Dishes: ‘We Did It in One Week!’

Before Julia Roberts could set off to film Eat, Pray, Love, costume designer Michael Dennison had to take a journey of his own. “Fran Vega-Buck (Julia’s personal costumer since 1993′s The Pelican Brief) and I traveled to each of the locations—New York, Rome, India and Bali—to buy clothes and accessories before filming started,” Dennison told us. “And we did it in one week!” After the whirlwind trip, Dennison pulled together more than 100 costumes for the around-the-world shoot. “Each part of the story is associated with a season, but the calendar is backwards,” he explained. “We meet Julia’s character when she’s in an emotional winter, then she begins a journey that takes her through fall, summer and finally to spring, the season of rebirth and renewal. What she wears helps us to see how she’s changing and growing.” Click through our gallery for more photos of Roberts’s Eat, Pray, Love style and get a sneak peek at her sexy co-stars, Javier Bardem and James Franco!
