Clark Kent Chic: 14 Super Manly Stars in Geeky Glasses

When Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the men behind the original Superman, first created Clark Kent and his alter ego in the early 1930s, Kent was nothing more than a geek in glasses. But recently, Kent’s trademark look has been getting some respect, with hunky stars like Justin Timberlake, Usher, Johnny Depp, Josh Duhamel, and more taking a break from their usual super man looks to don the retro eyewear, sparking a craze that we have yet to see the end of. So in honor of the latest Superman film, Man of Steel (starring Amy Adams and Henry Cavill, in theaters today) have a glance at some hunky stars in glasses, proving—like Kent himself—you should never judge a book by its cover.

Jake Gyllenhaal turns 32 today! The sexy star earned a cult-like following more than 10 years ago when he portrayed Homer Hickam in October Sky and the angsty titular character in Donnie Darko, and his screen career kept building since. For his most recent movie role, he played a South Central Los Angeles police officer in End of Watch, a role that required him to train for five months with real-life officers. “It was a long, amazing process and the police officers that we met along the way are some of my closest friends to this day, and hopefully forever,” the actor told InStyle.com at the Toronto International Film Festival. Happy birthday, Jake!

While Michelle Monaghan showed up to the New York premiere of her new action thriller Source Code wearing a bright teal dress by Roksanda Ilincic, she confessed that her personal style is much different than her character in the movie, Christina Warren. “In the movie, unfortunately, I wore the same outfit over and over again so I didn’t really feel like there was much style,” Monaghan told us. “It was kind of boring but it was comfortable and that was the most important thing.” So did she slip anything away after filming wrapped? “Usually there is something I want to take home to remember the movie, but no, I just kind of left it all there.” If there’s one thing did take away about style, it’s from sexy co-star Jake Gyllenhaal: “He’s got a great head of hair,” she said. In Hollywood, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise made a red carpet appearance at the premiere of The Kennedys, where Holmes remembered getting into character to play legendary first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. “The wardrobe department worked very hard to re-create a lot of  Mrs. Kennedy’s iconic looks, including a hand-painted gown,” said Holmes, who looked every inch the style icon herself in a knitted lace dress from the Ralph Lauren Collection. “It was a lot of fun to do all of the fittings.” Across town, Jake Gyllenhaal arrived solo to a screening of Source Code but soon met up with onscreen flame Michelle Monaghan.
