Emmy Rossum figured it out—the easiest way to get in on the leather look without actually buying leather (and potentially breaking the bank in the process) is slipping on a pair of coated jeans. Layered with a waxy sheen, the glossy surface conjures up the very same too-cool biker vibe that real leather pants evoke, but for a fraction of the cost. Unlike leather, varnished jeans are versatile, which means there’s a whole slew of options in a wide spectrum of colors, patterns and fabrics. Toughen up any topper with coated skinnies like Rossum did when she teamed her Old Navy “Rockstar” jeans in wine ($35; oldnavy.com) with a sweetly striped sweater. Get the look by shopping 14 of our favorite pairs that range from straight-up wax to coated brocade.

Emmy Rossum and Origins have joined forces for a cause! The beauty brand has teamed up with Charity: Water, a non-profit organization that provides water to people around the world who cannot easily access a clean source, and Rossum has jumped on board as the spokesperson. Last night at the New York City launch of the Origins SmartyPlants CC Cream ($35; origins.com), the star told us why she’s lending a hand. “Origins is a brand I’ve used and loved for years, and I love that they are involved with this amazing charity,” she told InStyle.com. “Eco-charity is also really big in my life, and it’s important for me to give back.” Rossum, whose do-good attitude is evident through her previous work with the Global Green charity, is urging fans of Origins to make a $30 donation to Charity: Water specific to Ethiopia, after she heard the story of one woman’s plight there. For the first 1,000 donors, the beauty brand will match the donation amount. “Charity: Water is an organization I’ve always admired,” she said, adding how she commends Origins for its matching policy. Each individual contribution will provide clean water to a person in Ethiopia, and you can even donate via Twitter — simply tag @charitywater on Twitter with the #donate and #smartyplants hashtags, and include the amount you’d like to give. Head over to charitywater.org for more information.

Emmy Rossum, Rita Ora, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and More Toast to 25 Years of DKNY in New York CitySep 10, 2013 @ 5:17 pm
Donna Karan sure knows how to throw one big birthday party! Last night, stars including Emmy Rossum, Hailee Steinfeld and Alexandra Daddario came out to celebrate the 25th anniversary of DKNY and everything that is iconic about the brand. ”It’s playful, but feminine, but it’s got the sleekness and modernness of Donna Karan’s aesthetic,” Shameless star Rossum told InStyle.com. Among the stars, models Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls were also in attendance as the MCs for the evening. “When I think of DKNY, I think of all the advertising and the billboard on Houston [Street] for so many years,” Kloss said. “It’s quintessentially New York and I think they’ve been able to maintain that cool allure.” Held in the historical Wall Street building, ‘The Corner’ in the Financial District of New York City, the venue was transformed into a New York scene filled with neon signs and the DKNY logo on display which still remains an iconic symbol of the brand today. While guests sipped on Belvedere cocktails and indulged in chocolate covered pretzels, popcorn and small pizza bites, Rossum was particularly excited about two things, “cake and live performances, what could be better?” Headlining the bash was Rita Ora, who also shared the stage with Iggy Azalea, A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg. Aside from the huge taxi cab-styled cake, Kloss brought in her very own Karlie’s Kookies for both Donna and the guests to enjoy. Now that’s a party!

Celebrities have wish lists, too! Moments after the Tory Burch spring/summer 2014 show, we overheard stylist to the stars Brad Goreski tell actress Emmy Rossum two major trends to take away from the collection that will be big for the season: Green and backpacks. “I love her aesthetic,” Rossum (in head-to-toe Tory Burch) told InStyle.com minutes before the show. “I love her ready-to-wear for my street style and day wear. I’m really looking forward to pieces that I will be buying.” Probably on her shopping list? We’re positive this backpack and one of the designer’s pretty green garden-print looks are at the very top— they’re on ours!

Designer: Tory Burch
Location: David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center
What was it like: The theater proved to be the perfect set for Tory Burch’s spring/summer 2014 collection, with its dramatic spiral staircase, 40-foot gold leaf ceilings and overall grandeur. And combined with the runway’s oceanic blue, the collection’s message of “easy glamour of the French Riviera” was loud and clear.
Why we love this collection: The inspiration was: “The French Riviera in the late 1960s, Romy Scheider’s character in La Piscine and mixed with garden elements.” The result? A collection that was like a breath of fresh air: Models walked down in structured silhouettes in a fresh color palette of green, white and coral, which complemented lattice detailing and garden prints seamlessly. Jewels, Queen Anne’s lace prints (in organza and dupioni fabrics) and beaded embroidery delivered a generous (and dreamy) dose of glamour.
