With spring on the horizon, many of us are tempted to lighten up our current hue, but Elizabeth Olsen decided to take things in the opposite direction by taking her sunny blonde strands to a deep brunette just before a taping of Watch What Happens Live on Bravo. While everyone else was buzzing over her answer when a caller asked who her favorite sibling was, we were fixated on how well her new hair color complements her skin tone. For the record, Olsen doesn’t play favorites when it comes to family “Ashley remembered my birthday, but I don’t hold grudges against Mary-Kate for forgetting mine. She was out of town!” she tells host Andy Cohen. “We’re all very close. I’m very close with my brother as well. I should have just said him — it would have been the easier scapegoat!” Too funny! Regardless of who she really favors, we loved her diplomatic answer, not to mention her glossy, Earth-toned strands. Get a closer look at her ‘do, and click through for more celebrity hair makeovers!
Elizabeth Olsen may be Mary-Kate and Ashley‘s younger sister, but these days, she’s definitely standing out all on her own. Today, Olsen celebrates her 25th birthday. From her short-lived cameo appearance in her sisters’ 1994 film How the West Was Fun, to her breakout role in 2011′s Martha Marcy May Marlene, which earned Olsen a Critics’ Choice Award nomination, she has become one of Hollywood’s biggest rising stars.
Since then, Olsen has busied herself with a handful of films—including Silent House, Liberal Arts with Josh Radnor, last year’s Kill Your Darlings, Oldboy, and this month’s In Secret—and she’s already gearing up for her first major blockbuster film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. She will star as Scarlet Witch opposite of Hollywood heavy hitters Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Hemsworth. Not a bad way to kick off the new year! Miu Miu just released a campaign video to accompany the striking print ads for their spring 2014 collection that were revealed a few weeks ago, which star Elle Fanning, Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bella Heathcote.
Shot by Inez and Vinoodh, the video dives into a techno interpretation of the Spring 2014 collection, starring the young, new Hollywood talents. Featuring video game speed and sounds as the screen flashes quickly between shots of each of the stars, we discover the four actresses’ imaginary bedrooms through the liquid slide projections created by overlaying the footage with magnificent patterns of the Miu Miu prints. Watch the video above to check out Nyong’o laughing it up, Fanning curled up on the floor, and Heathcote rapidly blinking her eyes for the camera. Then, see your favorite celebrities wearing Miu Miu in our gallery.
In Miu Miu‘s latest ad campaign, Hollywood’s brightest new stars are front and center. Elle Fanning, Lupita Nyong’O, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bella Heathcote each front their own spring/summer 2014 ad for the brand that is meant to be unique to their own personal style, while translating the new spirit of the Miu Miu woman. The actresses were photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in New York City and the results are striking—each poses against contrasting walls in saturated shades of blue, red, and violet and multicolor floorboards, which accentuates the mixed prints and materials of the clothes and accessories. Thick wool stockings in rich yellow, red, and pink are paired with ruby Mary Janes, lace-up knee-highs or crystal-studded platform sandals, truly conveying the brand’s hip signature style. With all the buzz these ladies get for their red carpet choices, its no wonder Miu Miu chose them for the campaign.
Elizabeth Olsen Shines in Altuzarra at FilmDistrict and The Cinema Society’s Screening of Oldboy in New York CityNov 12, 2013 @ 5:40 pm
All eyes were on Elizabeth Olsen last night at New York City’s AMC Lincoln Square Theater, where FilmDistrict and The Cinema Society co-hosted a screening of Spike Lee’s much-anticipated film Oldboy, a modern-day American remake of the cult classic South Korean thriller. The 24-year-old actress proved that sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley aren’t the only ones with fashion chops in the family, showing off her own style in an Altuzarra white silk dress and shimmering silk jacket woven with metallic thread. “If I went through a security thing, it would go off!” Olsen joked to InStyle.com of the platinum-colored piece. “[Altuzarra] was like, ‘Try and get through the airport in this!’” We’ll take all the protection we can get: Oldboy tells the harrowing story of Joe Doucett (Josh Brolin), an advertising executive who is suddenly and inexplicably kidnapped and held for 20 years in solitary confinement with little else than a bed, a TV, and a shower. In the film, Olsen plays Marie, a social worker with a dark past who offers to help Joe after he’s freed from imprisonment, and becomes entangled in his quest to seek revenge on his captor. Catch the film when it opens in theaters on November 27th!
You may have heard how Google recently launched Glass, a wearable computer that you put on like a pair of glasses that allows you to record video, send messages, search for directions, and more, all activated by the sound of your voice. It’s a technology innovation we just had to test ourselves, which is why we scooped up a pair straight from Google — they aren’t available to the public yet — and brought it to our pop-up InStyle portrait studio at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. We wore them to interviews, took pictures of the in-studio action, searched for directions to the nearest coffee shop, and, most importantly, Googled plot lines to movies debuting at the festival. We also let celebs like Elizabeth Olsen and Saoirse Ronan test them out, too. The reactions? Mostly a lot of “wows” with a few “eeks” mixed in. InStyle.com photographer Alex Reside captured the responses — click the button below to take a look. The Stars of the Toronto International Film Festival Through the Lens of Photographer Henny GarfunkelSep 10, 2013 @ 8:20 am
There is something very energizing about being at a film festival, especially one like the Toronto International Film Festival. The buzziest new films make their premiere here, sparking the first Oscar buzz discussions of the season, as the stars travel around the northern city promoting their new projects. To capture that energy, InStyle brought seasoned photographer Henny Garfunkel to Toronto and set up a pop-up portrait studio inside the Windsor Arms Hotel so she could shoot some of Hollywood’s hottest and the newest up-and-comers of the festival’s films. Lupita Nyong’o is one of #TIFF13’s princesses with her role in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, and she illuminated the room when she swung by with her gorgeous personality. (Her Katie Ermilio blue trousers helped, too). Parkland star Zac Efron woke up with InStyle, stopping by the studio nice and early at 9:30 a.m. to smile in this sweet photo above—though, it was not early enough to deter fans, who were waiting for him outside. Elizabeth Olsen also made an appearance, looking cozy in an oversize Marni sweater coat when she sipped her coffee before getting snapped by Garfunkel. “She is just so beautiful,” said Garfunkel of the young star. “She can’t take a bad picture.” Click to see more photographs by Henny Garfunkel and what the stars had to say about their new films.

Comic-Con is known for attracting the most dedicated, fearless fans who dress up in costume. But among the Superwomans and Spider-Mans and Katniss Everdeens at this year’s event, there were also designer pieces by Versace, Proenza Schouler, Wes Gordon, and more trudging through San Diego’s Convention Center. Stars left their done-up, straight-laced ensembles at home and opted for playful styles, embracing prints and midriff looks with complete abandon to promote their new sci-fi, fantasy and action flicks. One trend we spotted: Micro shorts as seen on Nina Dobrev (in Sachin + Babi), Lily Collins (in Paper London) and Elizabeth Olsen (in Balenciaga), who styled them with mixed prints, trapeze tops and cropped tanks.
