Parties Pics: Saoirse Ronan and Diane Kruger Premiere The Host

Mar 20, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

Saoirse Ronan (in Lanvin) and Diane Kruger (in Thakoon) debuted their new movie The Host last night at the premiere held at the ArcLight Hollywood in Los Angeles. The film (open March 29) is adapted from Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s novel, which centers on Ronan’s character Melanie, a young girl who refuses to give up her mind to enemies who want to use human bodies as their hosts. And there’s a romantic element as well: ”There’s a lot of kissing with co-stars Max Irons and Jake Abel, which sounds a bit sleazy, but it’s only because I’m playing two characters,” she told InStyle. “At least that’s the excuse I’m going with.” See more photos from last night’s hottest parties in the gallery.

Diane Kruger on Not Working With a Stylist: “That’s Like Someone Picking Out Who I’m Going To Date”

Diane Kruger is such a fashion expert that she goes without one thing many stars consider necessary: a stylist. “I find it strange that someone would pick clothes out for you,” Kruger told InStyle.com of having someone dress her at InStyle & HFPA’s Golden Globes Award Season Kick-Off Party. Rather, she likes to pick her own looks, which include a range of designers like Cushnie et OchsJason WuRochas, and Prabal Gurung, as shown above from left. ”What you wear is such an expression of who you are. That’s like someone picking out who I’m going to date!“ Kruger also said her background as a model gives her a special understanding of the process of creating clothes. “To me it’s another form of art—it’s like a movie,” she said. “I really appreciate haute couture. I’ve had the privilege to go backstage and see the little hands that make the dresses, and they sew every sequin and every lace by hand. It’s an art form. It’s truly art.” She certainly makes it look easy!

Holiday Look We Love: Sequins Like the Stars

Dec 17, 2012 @ 4:45 pm

Our pick for an on-trend look that is perfect for this season’s festivities? Sequins! Take a cue from style setters like Diane Kruger (in Chanel), Hailee Steinfeld (in Erin by Erin Fetherston), Kate Bosworth (in Stella McCartney), and Jamie Chung (in Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet), by choosing a sparkly strapless or nipped waist version. The key to such luster: Pairing the look with simple accessories keeps eyes on the dress and anchors all of that shine. For more head-turning trends we love this month, turn to page 44 of InStyle’s January issue. On the go? Download the issue on your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet!

Inside the New Icons Book: Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and More!

The photography team of Markus Klinko and Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri know what it takes to make an icon—so they rounded up a retrospective of their most memorable images, and put them in their new book Icons: The Celebrity Exposures of Markus + Indrani ($25, Running Press, out this month). “It’s not just fame,” French-Hungarian photographer Markus Klinko told InStyle.com of what it takes to make an icon. “There’s definitely the ability to create a timeless presence—that’s the secret of the iconic photo or the iconic person. Like a good wine, with time it becomes something else.” And if you look at the pair’s images, their subjects all fit the bill: Lady Gaga, Kate Winslet, Diane Kruger, Eva Mendes, and Beyoncé posed for the duo for images that, in Klinko’s words, “border the line between fantasy and reality.” Click through the gallery to learn more about collaborating with the Icons from Markus, and shop the book (which honors the duo’s 18th anniversary of working together) on amazon.com.
