Hillary Clinton’s Mother of the Bride Makeover

Aug 4, 2010 @ 4:00 pm

For daughter Chelsea’s wedding, mother of the bride Hillary Clinton said goodbye to Washington-style pantsuits in favor of glamorous gowns. Secretary of State Clinton wore two separate but equally beautiful designs last weekend: an ocean blue printed caftan that was the perfect mix of elegance and ease for the rehearsal dinner (right), and a magenta princess-style gown with an intricate floral pattern designed by long-time family friend Oscar de la Renta for the wedding (left). We love Hillary’s glam makeover, but what do you think? Tell us in the comments section below!

Bride Chelsea Clinton Dazzles in Vera Wang

Aug 1, 2010 @ 8:15 am

Chelsea Clinton is officially a married woman! Surrounded by 400 friends and family, the former First Daughter wed longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky in a lavish affair yesterday held at Astor Courts (complete with a no-fly zone in order) in Rhinebeck, New York. And, as rumored she would, the bride wore a dress custom-made by Clinton family friend Vera Wang–a strapless silk organza gown with a diagonally draped silk tulle bodice and a crystal-embellished belt. The iconic bridal designer attended the ceremony and also designed the bridesmaids’ dresses, which were strapless, bias-cut lavender chiffon that had contrasting plum bows. For the reception, the new bride changed into another Vera Wang design: this time, a silk tulle Grecian gown with a criss-cross back and narrow grosgrain black belt. As for the other details? The bride had her hair pulled back to complement her long, traditional tulle veil while carrying a simple-yet-chic bouquet of white hydrangeas. The groom and his new father-in-law, President Clinton, chose custom-designed Burberry tuxedos (Creative Director Christopher Bailey also attended the affair), while the mother of the bride Hillary Clinton opted for perennially favorite Oscar de la Renta. The guest list was relatively celebrity free, without rumored guest Oprah Winfrey, but included Mary Steenburgen, Diane Sawyer, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and actor Ted Danson. In a statement, the Clintons said, “Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family.” Click through our photo gallery to see more of Chelsea and Marc’s wedding photos and share your congratulations for the newlyweds in the comments below.

Where to Buy Chelsea Clinton’s Now-Famous Hat

Jul 29, 2010 @ 11:49 am

On Tuesday, bride-to-be Chelsea Clinton donned a large, floppy hat (to cover her hair and makeup trial, we presume) for a visit to Vera Wang‘s showroom. We’ve learned that the now-famous straw topper is from Hat Attack, and now you can get your hands on Clinton’s exact version, the Raffia Sun Hat, for $80 at hatattack.com.  Now that’s some serious coverage.

Chelsea to Wed in Vera, Hillary to Wear Oscar?

There’s been no shortage of rumors about which legendary bridal designer has taken on the task of designing Chelsea Clinton‘s wedding dress. But a pair of N.Y.C. sightings have started the mill churning again. Yesterday afternoon, the soon-to-be Mrs. Mevinzsky was spotted en route to Vera Wang‘s showroom, wearing a super-floppy hat to avoid prying eyes—and to cover, as WWD reported, her perfectly coiffed hair and flawless makeup (a trial run, perhaps, for the big day?). Hillary met her daughter at Wang’s, having come from her own appointment at Oscar de la Renta. The Secretary of State is known to admire the designer (she wore one of his gowns to the Inaugural Ball in 2008). And although Chelsea wasn’t seen at de la Renta’s showroom yesterday, both she and her mother have reportedly visited both bridal designers on several occasions. It’s possible that Chelsea has taken on the two-dress trend and will wear one designer’s dress to the ceremony and the other to the reception, but our guess is that Mama Clinton is wearing Oscar and that Chelsea will embody the all-American bride in Vera. What do you think Chelsea will wear for her nuptials this Saturday? Tell us in the comments section below!
