No holiday outfit is complete without the perfect clutch. As an accessory that functions as a hold-all for your essentials, a clutch plays a pivotal role on dressy nights out. What more, it’s a non-committal way to try out trends without actually wearing them. That’s why we took inspiration from clutches gripped at the hip of celebrities on the red carpet and rounded up the top seven types in varying shapes, sizes and materials. Accent a minimalist shift, like Charlize Theron’s, with a graphic black-and-white pattern, or copy Michelle Dockery and break up monochromaticism with a glamorous wave of jewels. From boxed minaudieres to edgy winter white detailing, shop each trend to find your next holiday clutch.

Charlize Theron Thinks They Made a Mistake, Nicole Kidman Thanks Her “Mum” at the Power of Women EventOct 7, 2013 @ 4:14 pm
It was ladies’ night at the Variety’s 5th Annual Power of Women event presented by Lifetime at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hill. Hollywood’s biggest stars including Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman were honored for their inspiring philanthropic efforts. “I always think there was a mistake made and somehow somebody put my name down on a list that wasn’t supposed to happen,” Theron said to reporters. “It’s just really humbling because I feel like these women are women that I really look up to on every level.” Theron, who was honored for her work with her namesake organization, Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, was also joined by Kidman who was applauded for her work with UN Women. “The reason I’m here today for doing this work is my mum,” Kidman said. “From the minute I was tiny, [she] was always teaching me to be socially aware and passionate, and my father as well. It’s what I’ve seen and they’ve educated and wired my brain and heart in a particular way.” The evening’s other honorees included Kerry Washington (President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities), Amy Poehler (Worldwide Orphans Foundation), Elizabeth Banks (for her work on behalf of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women), Jennifer Hudson (Julian D. King Gift Foundation), and Amy Pascal (Teen Line). “This is about our causes, our beliefs and for me, it’s about gender equality and eradicating violence against women,” Kidman continued to reporters. “I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to talk about it, so thanks for listening.” We hear you, Nicole!

Gorgeous? Absolutely. Vain? Are you serious? Oscar winner Charlize Theron is more than happy to blow off a Spin class (or two) for playtime with her son Jackson and to shave off her hair (yep, all of it) for a plum role in Fury Road. For InStyle‘s August issue, the actress talked about shaving her her head, motherhood, and her seven beauty must-haves. Click the photo to see her fave items and scroll down to read our exclusive interview with the star. For more, turn to page 191 of the recent issue, now available on newsstands or downloadable for your tablet.
First you got rid of your brows for Monster, and now you’ve shaved your head for your upcoming film, Fury Road. Talk about taking one for the team.
The more I talked to my director, George Miller, about my [postapocalyptic] character, the more I realized there was no way around it. He didn’t want to be the bad guy and just ask me to do it, so I finally called him and was like, “I need to shave my head, right?”
You did it yourself?
Yeah, buzzed it with a razor.
How did it feel seeing your hair on the floor?
Great! I had just finished two press tours and my hair was destroyed from heat damage, so I was glad to get rid of it. I was also a new mom and just loved the idea of not having to style my hair every morning. The timing was perfect.
Speaking of motherhood, how has it affected your beauty regimen?
Now everything’s dictated by this little guy, [1-year-old] Jackson. He’s a bit of a night owl, and I haven’t figured out the whole “put the kids to bed and have time for yourself” thing. I wash my face at night and apply moisturizer. In the morning I press a hot towel to my face, put on sunscreen, then a bit of foundation and mascara. I’ve never been big on lipstick during the day.
Do you find time to work out, or is your fit body a genetic blessing?
God, no! I unfortunately did not get that gene. I don’t have a rigid routine. I like Spinning and yoga. But I’m at a place now where if I can forgo an hour at the gym to spend time with my son, trust me, I do it with pleasure.

It was a good weekend to be GLAAD! The organization hosted its annual Media Awards on Saturday, which honored positive messages in the media portraying the LGBT community, and this year’s event was packed with stars supporting the cause. Drew Barrymore hosted the Los Angeles ceremony, where she was joined by Jennifer Lawrence (in David Koma), Darren Criss, Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron (in Jason Wu), funny lady Betty White, and President Bill Clinton, who received the organization’s Advocate for Change Award. “I want to keep working until not only the Defense of Marriage Act is not the law of the land, but until all people, no matter where they live, can marry the people they love,” Clinton said during his acceptance speech. The New Normal, Day of Our Lives, and American Horror Story also received honors. Click the photo above to see more.
Happy #ThrowbackThursday! To celebrate our favorite hashtag of the week, we’re taking a look back at InStyle‘s 1999 cover starring the lovely actress and activist, Charlize Theron. “Draped in @Gucci at 23, Charlize Theron was as much a knockout in April 1999 as she is today!” we captioned. And indeed, Theron, who’s picked up an Oscar since then, looks just as luminous now as she did then. It’s good to be Charlize!

If Charlize Theron‘s red carpet moment and opening dance number for the Oscars look like they went off without a hitch, it’s thanks to her behind-the-scenes magician, celebrity stylist Leslie Fremar. And magic it was: The stylist teamed up with The Coveteur for Oscars weekend to give a prepping play-by-play, from the fittings to the fixings. And she didn’t withhold any details—including the part about how the Dior dress custom designed for her dance number ripped while during rehearsals at 10:06 a.m., just hours before she had to take the stage. But it was all fixed before showtime! Click over to thecoveteur.com to get all the details on Leslie Fremar’s epic night of styling.
