Free-flowing champagne! Horses on the run! Stars packed in to a park! Now that’s our kind of summer kickoff. The sixth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic delivered all of these party elements this weekend, when stars like Rosario Dawson, Ashley Olsen, and more ferried over from Manhattan Island to Liberty State Park in New Jersey to take in the annual match, which raised money for the recovery of Liberty State Park and due to damages sustained from Hurricane Sandy. Matthew McConaughey co-hosted this year’s event alongside famed polo player Nacho Figueras, who walked the red carpet in crutches due to an injury he endured two weeks prior. While Figueras could not play on his four-person Black Watch team against Team Nespresso, he did offer up a substitute: Mini Nacho, his 13-year-old son, Hilario. Good thing he didn’t ask McConaughey. “I’ve never played polo so I don’t know what I’d do with a stick in my hand or whatever it’s called,” the actor told reporters. “But I like horses. I wouldn’t call myself a cowboy. Riding horses is somewhat like riding a bike, you don’t really forget.” During half-time, the crowd—7,000 polo watchers and VIPs combined—took a break from sipping Veuve champagne and rose to stomp the divots Pretty Woman-style before a backdrop of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. ”It’s so elegant and classic!” McConaughey’s wife Camila Alves told InStyle.com. Kelly Rutherford helped expectant Camila Alves celebrate her new role as the face of Macy’s INC International Concepts last night in New York City. “The thing that I love most about this collection is that any woman can find a piece that works for her,” Alves told us at the bash, held at No. 8 in New York. “If you like bold colors, if you’re classic, if you’re bohemian, you’ll find something.” And Alves follows her own advice, as she wore a plum bandage dress, a silver cuff, and heels, all from the collection. An expectant Camila Alves (in I.N.C International Concepts) joined husband Matthew McConaughey on the red carpet for the New York screening of his latest film, Killer Joe, hosted by the Cinema Society, Bally, and DeLeón. In the movie, McConaughey plays a cop hired by Emile Hirsch to kill his mother. “He’s charismatic and he’s handsome, which is why you don’t expect him as a killer,” screenwriter Tracy Letts told InStyle.com of the choice to cast McConaughey as a hit man. Matthew McConaughey stopped by The Tonight Show last night, where he chatted with host Jay Leno about how he proposed to now-wife Camila Alves and his 72-hour wedding. “We put 40 tents up in the yard,” the actor told Leno. “This was her idea. She [Camila] said, ‘I want to build a village.” In addition to the air-conditioned tents, 17 family members stayed in the newlyweds’ house. “It was wonderful chaos,” said McConaughey. The guests’ agenda included a sushi dinner on the couple’s lawn, a dance party that lasted until 3:30am, a crayfish boil, and a Southern barbeque. One guest even gifted the newlyweds a sword “for the couple who has everything.” Sounds like a wedding to remember! Watch the full clip above.
