Designers, stars, and fashion industry vets headed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institute Gala last night, an annual event that draws some of the most head-turning fashion moments of the year. With this year’s theme being Punk: Chaos to Couture, the guests interpreted the notion of punk in many different ways, from Anne Hathaway‘s debut of a platinum pixie to Madonna‘s full-on punk look. Video of the Day: Beyoncé Debuts New Song “Standing on the Sun” in H&M Video

Apr 25, 2013 @ 10:35 am

It might only be April, but in the world of Beyoncé and H&M, summer is in full effect. The singer just released her first ad for the brand’s summer campaign, and the island-set clip (watch it above!) features a brand new track from Mrs. Carter. The drum-driven love song, titled “Standing on the Sun,” is likely her latest sneak peek into her forthcoming album, a vastly different follow-up to her pounding, Houston hip-hop-infused single “Bow Down/I Been On.” And it makes a perfect soundtrack for H&M’s summer collection—think fringed string bikinis, tie-dye bandeaus with high-waisted bottoms, and beaded LBDs—which Bey models with ease as she dances in wind, sand, and sun. Check out the clip above—but you’ve been fairly warned: you may experience symptoms of summer fever! The treatment? Just press replay, of course.

Beyonce’s Most Scandalous Tour Costume Ever: Exclusive Details from Designers, The Blonds

Beyoncé opened her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in Belgrade last night and debuted the most scandalous costume we’ve ever seen her wear: This crystal-encrusted bodysuit, inspired by the nude female form. Designed by costume specialists The Blonds (as seen in the sketch they provided above), the piece incorporated more than 30,000 hand-embroidered Swarovski crystals, and it took around 600 hours to create. “When Beyoncé’s creative director Ty Hunter first approached us about collaborating on the Mrs. Carter World Tour, we were ecstatic to say the least!” designer David Blond exclusively told InStyle.com. “The idea was to celebrate the female form, which is something we always strive to do with every collection.” His design partner Phillipe echoed: “Our original inspiration was the female nudes painted by Tamara de Lempicka and the idea of being covered in crystallized honey which provided the color palette. This is a couture piece for a legend, so there was no holding back and it was beyond what we had ever attempted before. We believe it is one of the most provocative and glamorous looks ever seen on the stage.” It is indeed! Click on the photo above to see the full costume, plus more of her designer looks from the show.

Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter Show Tour Costumes: All the Details (and Photos!)

Beyoncé kicked off her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour last night in Belgrade, Serbia, and for those of you just as obsessed with Bey’s elaborate stage fashion as her girl power anthems, you’ll be satisfied. She delivered costumes by DSquared2, Emilio Pucci, Julien Macdonald, The Blonds, and Ralph & Russo, and shoes by Stuart Weitzman (who also designed her pumps for her glitzy, Vegas-themed show at Revel in Atlantic City last summer). “Dressing someone like Beyoncé is beyond great,” Pucci creative director Peter Dundas told InStyle.com. “She’s an incredible mix of beauty, artistry, and just pure energy. Watching her rehearse before our midnight fittings made me want to run home and sketch!  She’s a true icon and doing the costumes for her show was a privilege for me and for Emilio Pucci.” Click the photo above to see more looks from the show, and click here to find out where she’s performing near you.

Three DSquared2 Looks We’d Love to See Customized for Beyoncé’s Tour Costumes

Put your hands up: Fashion’s most adorable twin duo DSquared2′s Dean and Dan Caten just announced they will custom-design looks for Beyoncé upcoming The Mrs. Carter Show world tour. (“Keep your eyes on #MrsCarter World Tour!” they Tweeted.) The partnership seems a good fit given the designers’ diva-worthy and dance-friendly creations, and we pulled a few that we’d love to see the singer wear with a customized spin. To strut her stuff to ”Diva” or “End of Time,” we imagine the fierce, leg-baring looks on the left and right (from spring 2013). For the ballad portion of her show when she tends to wear full-length gowns, we think this deep-plunging, cutout creation (from fall 2013) would work for belting out tracks like “1+1” and “Flaws and All.” The costumes will officially debut when the tour kicks off next week in Belgrade.

The Printed Nail Wraps Beyonce Loves, Available for $16

Apr 8, 2013 @ 4:25 pm

When it comes to her manicures, Beyoncé always sets the bar high. We couldn’t help but notice her latest design—the patterned digits she had on her fingers as she started doing the motions to her “Single Ladies” dance in her new Pepsi commercial. Beyoncé chose the NCLA nail wraps in Umoja, which were designed by Melody Eshani. The pattern is Eshani’s interpretation of how colorful Maasai jewelry would look as a textile print, and we love how each finger gets its own unique design. Pick up a set for $16 at shopncla.com now.

Just In: Beyonce’s New Pepsi Video Shows Off Her Most Iconic Looks Ever

Apr 4, 2013 @ 10:22 am

Beyoncé celebrated #ThrowbackThursday in a big way today! After teasing the world yesterday by releasing a 6-second video clip to preview a new project, the singer shared her first commercial for Pepsi this morning. Titled “Mirrors,” the one-minute clip shows Bey (in AllSaints’ Kyoto tee, which you can snag here for $68) surrounded by a circle of mirrors, at first struggling to pin down her new choreography. After taking a sip of an ice cold Pepsi, she’s given new life by looking in the mirror and seeing her reflection transformed into her “Bootylicious”-era self. Suddenly surrounded by images of her former selves, Bey gets inspired and starts busting out dance moves spanning her entire career (good to see you again, “Single Ladies” hand wave). “Embrace your past, but live for now,” the singer asserts before strutting across the stage. Amen, Bey! Watch the clip above, and check out a behind-the-scenes photo of her video shoot below.
