A star wasn’t born last night in New York, but appropriately recognized: Barbra Streisand was the object of accolades and tributes from the likes of President Bill Clinton and wife Hillary, Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas, and more at the 40th Annual Chaplin Award Gala at Lincoln Center. The Film Society gives a Chaplin Award every year to an artist who has made significant contributions to the art of film. Streisand was also serenaded from some of music’s most iconic performers, including Liza Minnelli and Tony Bennett, who closed the program by singing Chaplin’s happy-go-lucky song “Smile.” And smile Babs did! Memories! The week just ended and we’re already fondly looking back on our Monday to Friday on Instagram. Over the past few days our editors went to PaleyFest in Los Angeles to catch up with Ginnifer Goodwin, stopped by Marshall’s in New York for a peek at Maria Menounos‘s spring shopping picks, and contributed to the awesome #ThrowbackThursday hashtag by posting our first cover girl, Barbra Streisand. See more of this week’s best photos in the gallery, and stay up-to-date by following us at @instylemagazine on Instagram.

Oh, the way we were! Today, in honor of #ThrowbackThursday, we posted this fun shot to @InStyleMagazine’s Instagram account, showing off the very first cover to ever hit newsstands featuring the talented Barbra Streisand. ”We shot this at my old compound in Malibu,” says Streisand of the June 1994 issue. “I still have the furniture. What an honor to be the first!” Now that’s memories.

The Way They Are: Barbra Streisand & Donna Karan Together Again on Oscar Night!

Feb 25, 2013 @ 11:03 am

When legendary singer Barbra Streisand took to the stage to perform “The Way We Were” at last night’s Academy Awards (for the first time in 36 years), she was glittering from head-to-toe in a look by a designer who just happens to be her best friend: Donna Karan. “We’re like sisters!” Karan told InStyle.com at the Governors Ball after-party. “It was really a collaboration to celebrate her shining star, and her lightness. That’s why it was black and gold. And then when we saw the set, it was one of those things that very rarely happen in life, it’s very rare that you get that pull. And she just radiated.” Karan named the black, asymmetrical dress “City Lights,” a construction of chiffon layers encrusted with matte gold sequins and beads complete with a long-sleeve capelet. Watch Streisand perform the iconic song as an homage to composer Marvin Hamlisch (which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1973) here!

Barbra Streisand Will Perform at the Oscars for the First Time in 36 Years

Jan 30, 2013 @ 6:00 pm

Best news of the day: Babs is back! Barbra Streisand will perform at the 85th Annual Academy Awards, taking over the Oscars stage for the first time since her performance of “A Star Is Born” in 1977. ”In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand?” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. “We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance on this year’s Oscars, her first time singing on the show in 36 years.” No word yet on what the two-time Oscar winner will perform, but combined with Adele’s performance of the theme from Skyfall, it’s sure to be an epic diva-filled night! (Seth, who?!) Tune in to ABC at 7/6c on February 24 to hear the vocal powerhouses in action.
