When actress Ashley Madekwe isn’t busy working the cameras (her most recent role was Ashley Davenport on Revenge), the British darling is turning on the charm as a style icon-slash-blogger, known for her savvy sartorial picks and impeccable taste. So, it comes as no surprise that jewelry destination BaubleBar tapped her to serve as “Guest Bartender” for the month (her birthday month!) and curate a collection of 22 statement pieces that resonate with Madekwe’s personal MO. “Together, we’ve come up with a collection of pieces that really encompass my style,” she told InStyle.com exclusively. “All of my go-to favorites are included—midi rings, ear cuffs, studs and lots of sparkle!” Priced between $22 and $46, the Ashley Madekwe x BaubleBar collection launches today on baublebar.com. Read on to learn about Madekwe’s selection process, her favorite pieces and her street style secrets.

While Ashley Madekwe‘s character on Revenge may not be on-screen as much this season, the star continues to inspire our style choices in the real world, and we’re especially eager to try out the statement-making red lip she wore to The Fourth-Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Los Angeles over the weekend. “It was nearly 90 degrees in Los Angeles on Saturday, so we went with a pretty, barely-there makeup look for Ashley,” Madekwe’s makeup artist Lauren Andersen told InStyle.com exclusively. Andersen started with a flawless backdrop for the killer lip: She began with a layer of YSL Touche Eclat Foundation ($55; yslbeautyus.com), then used Laura Mercier’s bronzer ($32; lauramercier.com) to add a slight contour. She took a simple approach when it came to the eyes, opting for the deep brown in Avon’s True Color Shadow Quad in Chocolate Sensation ($6; avon.com) all over the star’s lids, then used Votre Vu Brow Wax ($17; votrevu.com) and Avon’s Mega Effects Mascara ($10; avon.com) to frame the eye. A generous amount of Avon’s Ultra Color Lipstick in Cherry Jubilee ($6; avon.com), a deep burgundy-red, provided the finishing touch.

Designer: Monique Lhuillier
Location: Lincoln Center
What it was like: Once the lights darkened, spring literally sprung from a sheer floral screen as models took to the runway in red, pink, orange and cream ensembles, walking down and then back around and past each other in Lhuillier’s creations. Skirts and trains flowed on the long walkway as pieces gracefully slid across the lit platform.
Why we love this collection: Monique Lhuillier said she was “going back to pretty” with this collection, and she certainly succeeded with her embroidered floral shift dresses, lace detailing and sequined pale gold pieces. Sheer chiffon ombre trains and billowing skirts on dresses were sweet twists but what really got us was the two-piece evening gowns. One’s silk gazar pink bandeau and orange ball skirt stood out as favorites of Lhuillier and front row goer Madekwe, too.

Watch The Exclusive Video: Here’s Exactly How to Style Your Hair and Wardrobe for a Job Interview, With Tips from Ashley MadekweSep 3, 2013 @ 7:13 pm
First impressions count, especially when it comes to nailing the interview for your dream job. In addition to your extensive resume, your hair and clothing should also prove that you are a fit for the part. The only question is, what should you wear? Ashley Madekwe and Joico’s International Artistic Director Damian Carney have your answer! For the latest installment in their Drab to Fab web series, the star teamed up with the hair pro to create the comprehensive video above on how you can make the perfect first impression from head to toe—literally. Carney picked up his scissors to cut a set of polished, brow-skimming bangs, while Madekwe paired the model’s hairstyle with the ever-pressing interview wardrobe. “With a haircut that’s this chic and this directional, there isn’t really anything we can put her in that will detract from the chicness of the haircut she already has,” the star said. “She’s gonna walk into her first day at work and she’s gonna impress everybody with her haircut.” Because of the graphic fringe, a frizz-fighting duo like Joico’s Smooth Cure Shampoo and Conditioner ($15 and $17; joico.com for locations) is key in keeping your strands pristine while you’re on the clock. “Keep in mind that bangs come in many forms, ways, shapes, and sizes,” added Carney. “A little bit of a longer fringe is good, because that means you can move it around.” Get the complete how-to in the video above! InStyle brought the Hamptons to the West Coast this year for our 12th annual Summer Soiree! Held poolside at the famed Mondrian Los Angeles Hotel, guests like Bryce Dallas Howard, Jenna Elfman, Ashley Madekwe, Ashley Tisdale, and Julianne Hough mingled over light bites while enjoying the panoramic view of Hollywood Hills and the Sunset Strip. The beachy decor stayed in line with the Hamptons theme with hundreds of lanterns hanging from the trees, and shoreside touches like vases of white flowers, sand and seashell-covered trays, and oversized lounge chairs adorned the pool deck. “There are some good dresses here tonight — I’m seeing a lot of things that I’m liking,” Elfman told us. Attendees had the chance to win shoes from InStyle‘s collaboration with Nine West and snap pictures in a photo booth, which posted directly to Twitter and Instagram, but Hough was most-excited about the impressive candy spread. “Honestly, I just walked in, and I’m about to go grab a drink and head straight for the candy bar,” she said. “I will be over there for a good 30 minutes!” Click the photo to take an inside look at our hottest party of the year, and to see who else was on the guest list.

You heard right: Overalls are making a comeback. Thanks to fashion’s cyclical nature, our beloved ’80s and ’90s-era dungarees are back with a vengeance, cropping up on the streets and red carpet events alike. We dug into our archives to discover that celebs (not to mention, royalty!) were once fans of the denim silhouette, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Applegate and Princess Diana. While stepping and clasping one on does evoke a wave of childhood nostalgia, a number of styling missteps could land you right back on the playground. Revisit the classic look with some star-inspired updates: Pair it with a striped shirt or blouse (don’t forget to roll up the sleeves!) for a laidback vibe, a la Alexa Chung, or pick a playful all-over print for a dressier occasion, like Ashley Madekwe. Feeling bold? Then team it with bright accessories for a modern spin, like Rihanna. If you’re still uncertain, go back to the basics. Throw on some heels, stash your plaid shirt, and you’ve mastered the art of making throwback fashion new again.
