Don’t Miss: The Television Debut of Girl Rising on CNN

Jun 16, 2013 @ 11:00 am

In case you missed Girl Rising in theaters this past March, you can catch it tonight on CNN for its international television debut. The Richard Robbins-directed documentary follows nine girls from Africa to India, and illustrates how attending school is often a challenge. The film explores how a proper education can change the lives of girls growing up in underprivileged communities around the globe—and consequently change the world. Catching Hollywood’s attention, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek (who is also our July cover girl), Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, Meryl Streep, Selena Gomez, Cate Blanchett and others lent their voices to help narrate the inspiring film. In a recent effort to call attention to the Girl Rising movement, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, a longtime advocate for children’s education, wrote an open letter to the “girls of the world” inciting the need for change and support by stating, “if we want all girls everywhere to rise up, then we must find them, befriend them and support them…If one girl with courage is a revolution, imagine what feats we can achieve together.” Because, as Beyonce says, “Who runs the world? Girls.” Visit 10x10act.org to learn how you can get involved, and tune in tonight for the film’s debut. Check here for local listings.

Remembering the Work of Stylist Annabel Tollman

The fashion world is in mourning: Annabel Tollman, former fashion director and stylist to the stars, passed away in her sleep last week at age 39. The British stylist became known for her her ability to highlight the female figure, which led her to dress a range of body types and personalities in Hollywood, including Scarlett Johansson (in Valentino), Anne Hathaway (in Nina Ricci), the Olsen twins, and Kristen Wiig (in J. Mendel). Her sartorial vision, her keen eye, and her old-Hollywood glamour aesthetic will be missed. In her memory, click to see several of the memorable celebrity looks she put together for the red carpet.

That Was Fast! Anne Hathaway’s Back to Brunette

May 29, 2013 @ 11:15 am

After spending three-and-a-half weeks as a blonde, Anne Hathaway has returned to her brunette roots! Transitioning to a darker shade like Hathaway runs the risk of fading due to the light base underneath. If you’re going for a similar change, consider investing in a color depositing conditioner to keep your hue from shifting. We’re obsessed with Evo’s Fabuloso Conditioner ($40; evohair.com), which has color pigments blended into the formula to give your shade a boost. So, which hair color do you prefer on Anne? Tell us by voting in the poll!

How to Maintain Your Blond Hair Color Like Anne Hathaway and Demi Lovato

Just when we thought auburn was the must-have hue this season, celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Demi Lovato changed the game by unveiling sunny blonde makeovers. After a brief stint as a brunette, Witherspoon returned to her famous golden highlights, joining Barrymore, Hathaway, and Lovato in the trend. If you’re considering doing the same, be sure to load up on the deep conditioner afterwards to minimize damage. Brassy tones are the sworn enemy of blonde hair, so to prevent any shifts in shade, incorporate a blue or purple-tinted shampoo and conditioner into your routine. The cool pigments neutralize unexpected orange or yellow shades, and keep your highlights going strong until your next salon appointment. Our favorites are Clairol’s Shimmer Lights ($9; sallybeauty.com), Sachajuan’s Silver Shampoo ($28; sephora.com), and Rita Hazan’s Foaming Color Gloss ($26; ritahazan.com).
