He may not be able to spin webs or swing from tall buildings, but Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield is every bit the hero to the kids he mentors through the Worldwide Orphans Foundation—a organization that works to educate and inspire orphaned children. “If I can travel the world and make kids feel good about themselves for being faster than Spider-Man, I am absolutely willing to do that,” Garfield, who has traveled to Ethiopia and Haiti as an ambassador, told InStyle for an exclusive feature in our March issue, available now on newstands and in downloadable version for tablets. Though the WWO assists with healthcare and education, Garfield’s job as the “Ambassador of Sport” is all about encouragement—refereeing soccer games and doling out hugs. “The work is never done,” Garfield added. “There is an infinite galaxy of children who need advocates. With Thanksgiving eight days away, we’re happy to report that there will superheroes joining the festivities this year—and not just as balloons at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Amazing Spider-Man is a confirmed Thanksgiving-lover, as Andrew Garfield, the actor who plays the hero, told us at last night’s Worldwide Orphans Foundation Gala in New York City (he’s the sports ambassador for the non-profit). “I’m assuming [Spider-Man celebrates] because he’s American, and he’s pretty tight with his aunt, so yes, I’d say he would,” Garfield told us. And even though Garfield himself is British—as you know it’s not really a British holiday, per history—he will be celebrating, too. “I like turkey, and I like tryptophan, and I like the drowsy feeling that you I get from tryptophan, so yes I will be eating turkey somewhere,” he said. Will it be with on-screen and real-life love, Emma Stone? For that answer, he wouldn’t say. So coy, Spidey!

Move over Magic Mike and Ted, The Amazing Spider-Man is this summer’s mega blockbuster! The superhero movie broke box office records, pulling in $35 million in its first day—the highest Tuesday debut since the Transformers in 2007, THR reports. We have to wonder if part of the movie’s appeal is the humble, handsome, relatable star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, who has a bit of a superhero quality himself. When we asked him what superpower he would want at an event supporting Worldwide Orphans Foundation (he is the Sports Ambassador) he answered “teleportation.” Why? “In terms of being generous and making a difference, it would be very useful to be in many different places at once because the world is in great need of help,” Garfield explained. Now that’s a heroic thought, no web-weaving needed!

It wouldn’t be summer without a superhero movie, which is why we’re excited to catch The Amazing Spider-Man over this Fourth of July break! We caught up with the cast at the film’s Hollywood premiere, where Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, and more gave us the inside scoop on the blockbuster.
