Hello, Park City! Members of the InStyle crew have headed to Utah to set up our pop-up portrait studio in the heart of the Sundance Film Festival as it celebrates its 30th year—cheers to founder Robert Redford!—starting today through January 26. What are we excited about? Here are five things heating up our film festival winter wonderland.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler dazzled as the hosts of the 2014 Golden Globes. They wowed us with both their wit and their style, as each donned three stunning looks throughout the evening. What did the ladies wear? Lets take a look at their evening ensembles:
To kick things off on the red carpet, Tina wore a floral print, custom Carolina Herrera gown, which was fun and sophisticated at the same time. She topped off the look with Fred Leighton jewels, Briant Atwood pumps, loose curls pulled half-way back, and raspberry lips that perfectly match the dress’s vibrant pattern. For Amy’s walk down the red carpet, she donned a black, belted custom Stella McCartney gown with asymmetrical detailing at the neckline. Paired with Charlotte Olympia shoes, Jacob and Co. jewels, a perfect blowout, and nude lips, the comedian looked stunning.
During the duo’s hilarious opening to the show, they emerged with new outfits. Tina wore another dress by Carolina Herrera—a form-fitting, embellished maroon look, this time wearing her hair down and opting for jewels by Lorraine Schwartz and Brian Atwood shoes. Amy changed into a glamorous, dark teal Stella McCartney gown with a bejeweled neckline and racerback, which featured lace cutouts along the sides.
The duo played presto change-o one more time with their outfits before the evening ended. Tina donned a red strapless column gown complete with train again by Carolina Herrera, while Amy opted for a black strapless gown with white detailing at the neckline (also from Stella McCartney). Each had a neatly-swept updo and sparkling jewels. The two funny-ladies definitely outdid themselves in the fashion department!
A Barefoot Emma Thompson and a Hotdog-Eating Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Our 9 Favorite Moments From the Golden Globe AwardsJan 13, 2014 @ 5:55 am
What a night! The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards packed a lot of fun in just three hours, from the fashions on the red carpet to the surprising winners of the night. Here’s our 9 favorite moments from the night:
1. Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
According to Fey and Poehler, their second time hosting the Golden Globes “was a beautiful mess we hoped it would be!” The two funny ladies kicked off the night with a series of jokes that had even Tom Hanks laughing. Our two favorite skits? Poehler taking the stage as Fey’s son Randy aka Mr. Globes and Julia Louis-Dreyfus eating in a hotdog.
2. Jennifer Lawrence—InStyle‘s December 2013 Cover Girl—Wins Best Supporting Actress
She did it again! Lawrence took home the first Golden Globe award of the night for her role as Christian Bale’s unpredictable wife in David O. Russell’s American Hustle. Just last year, Lawrence won a Golden Globe for best actress in Silver Linings Playbook and she is showing no signs of slowing down.
3. Breaking Bad’s Last Hurrah
It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Breaking Bad, which received the two gold statuettes for Best Drama Series and Best Actor (Bryan Cranston).
4. Amy Adams 15th Anniversary of Moving to LA
The American Hustle actress had a lot to celebrate last night! Not only did she take home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, but the night marked her 15th anniversary of her big move to Los Angeles to begin her career. Congratulations Amy!
5. The Bacons
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick shared an adorable family moment when they took to the stage to introduce their 21-year-old daughter, Sosie Bacon, as Miss Golden Globe. ”We know Miss Golden Globe,” they shouted right before Fey and Poehler interjected with their hilarious Mr. Golden Globe skit.
6. A Barefoot Emma Thompson
Leave it to Thompson to present an award barefoot! The Saving Mr. Banks star hit the stage with her Christian Louboutins in her hand (she even tossed them behind her back before she announced the winner) and we can’t say we’re shocked! When we caught up with the Golden Globe-nominated actress during the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City she admitted to InStyle.com, “heels get more painful as you get older. I’ve got band aids on every single toe.” Who knows, come Oscars time, going onstage barefoot might become a trend!
7. Amy Poehler Winning Her First Golden Globe
“I never won anything like this,” Poehler exclaimed while accepting her very first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Comedy Series (Parks and Recreation). What made the moment priceless was she got a personal back massage from Bono, and even made out with him. Not a bad way to accept an award!
8. Leonardo DiCaprio Winning Best Actor
After nine nominations and one win, DiCaprio can finally add another Golden Globe win to his roster! The Wolf of Wall Street star earned one of the night’s biggest honors, Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and he didn’t skip a beat during his acceptance speech to thank his director, Martin Scorsese, by saying, “thank you for your mentorship.”
9. Adorable Couple Moment: Matthew McConaughey and Wife Camila Alves
Aside from being the most stylish couple on the red carpet—they were both in clad in Dolce & Gabbana—they were also the cutest. Right before McConaughey accepted his award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, the two shared an adorable kiss and he even thanked her during his speech. Our hearts runneth over!
Seth Meyers isn’t worried about Golden Globe Awards hosts Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey being entertaining tomorrow. Why not? He prepared them for the show himself! The soon-to-be host of Late Night tells InStyle that he is the man behind the duo’s roster of jokes for tomorrow night’s awards – well kind of. “I have readied myself for the beautiful music of Poehler and Fey,” he told us at Diane von Furstenberg’s Journey of a Dress exhibition premiere in Los Angeles on Friday night, which brought out an A-list of stars including Gwyneth Paltrow and Demi Moore. “I’ve been helping out, every year. The last two years, those of us who have worked with them have been happy to suggest jokes; not that they really need our help.”
As for the comedic lineup, Meyers says we should expect to be highly entertained, just like last year. “I heard their jokes last night – we went to a read-through and they are in great shape, they are great,” says Meyers, who takes on the role of presenter at this year’s awards. “They have earned the goodwill of the audience. It is the perfect formula for that kind of show.”

Designer Zuhair Murad is no stranger to dressing some of the hottest A-listers around. Naturally, with award season in full swing, we were determined to pick his brain on what we can expect on the red carpet. Murad gave us an insider’s perspective on the designs he’d love to see on the stars he has previously outfitted (Golden Globe noms Taylor Schilling and Amy Poehler included), and those he hasn’t: Sandra Bullock and Lupita Nyong’o. Read his predictions below:
Taylor Schilling: “I’ve had the pleasure of dressing Taylor several times this past year, and what I love about her is that she embodies such a classic, elegant beauty and can wear virtually any genre of fashion. She tends to opt for more body-conscious silhouettes, but I see her in one of my favorite looks from my Fall 2014 Couture show (above). The gown features a black velvet branch design that wraps the body while the asymmetrical chiffon sleeve creates a dramatic cascade that frames the figure. Paired with her striking blue eyes and a red lip, it’s a red carpet look destined for a big stage win.”
Amy Poehler: “I was thrilled to hear that Amy is co-hosting the Golden Globes this year. Aside from her slew of dressing opportunities during the awards, I see Amy in my favorite jumpsuit from my Spring 2014 collection (above). Last year, she donned a flattering black tuxedo that suited her style and personality perfectly. I think a jumpsuit marries Amy’s innate sense of glamour and her playful sense of humor.“
Sandra Bullock: “Sandra has a timeless beauty, and her red carpet style tends to step outside of the box. She can do color, drop waist silhouettes, embroidery—you name it, she’s worn it. In 2013, I saw a new Sandra—she’s elegant, her body is flawless, and her confidence is through the roof. This year, Sandra doesn’t need over-the-top glamour to make a statement, she’s already on top.”
Lupita Nyong’o: “A fashion star on the rise! Lupita entered the fashion scene fearlessly, opting for modern silhouettes and color. I’m eager to see her sexier side at this year’s awards, perhaps in a long-line gown in a bright color with sheer panels to enhance her natural curves.”

Our favorite facetious duo is taking the stage (again!) this Sunday night—and we can’t wait. We first fell for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey on SNL, young and bright-eyed with a repertoire chock full of smart witticisms. Years later, our crush on the funny twosome has only deepened, further cemented by their roles as co-hosts at last year’s Golden Globes, where they heckled and flung jokes with abandon.
As we count down to awards night, we’re reminiscing just how far they’ve come since their Windy City days, career- and style-wise. In between fine-tuning their comedic routine and knee-slapping zingers, Poehler and Fey have sizzled on the red carpet. That’s why we took a look back at their red carpet moments over the years, chronicling their every look from awkward-fitting dresses in the early noughts to jaw-dropping gowns in the present. Journey through their style evolution for an instant Poehler-Fey fix.
