In the 83 versions of Superman—yes, 83!—we’ve watched A-listers and up-and-comers alike play Clark Kent’s love interest, in big screen, silver screen, and animated variations. The newest inductee into the Lois Lane Hall of Fame, Amy Adams, will make her debut this weekend in Man of Steel. In honor of her storied role, check out other actresses who have played the hero’s better half through the years. Be on the lookout for a few surprises!
Amy Adams, who plays Lois Lane in the heroic new flick, mirrored the caped crusader’s iconic “S” emblem with a bold red lip at the New York City premiere of Man of Steel last night. We loved how the subtle pink undertones gave the color a current feel. “I didn’t want to do just a red lip with lighter eyes,” said her makeup artist Stephen Sollitto. “We wanted the look to be a little softer, but with a modern twist.” To achieve the effect, Sollitto used sheer aubergine and copper tones on her eyes, then chose Votre Vu’s French Kiss Lipstick in Annette as the finishing touch. The balm-like texture allows room for versatility — one swipe imparts a natural-looking flush, but can be built upon for a more dramatic pop of color. Pick up the hue for $23 when it hits votrevu.com in September.

It was a night filled with bromance as Hollywood’s leading men gathered inside Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City, California to honor each other for the annual Spike TV Guys Choice Awards. While the evening celebrated the gents, some of our favorite ladies came out to show their love for the guys, too. Jake Gyllenhaal met up with Amy Adams (in L’Wren Scott) backstage, who was on-hand to accept the award for Most Anticipated Film for Man of Steel, Jennifer Aniston (in Christian Dior) shared a moment with Bradley Cooper after presenting Jimmy Kimmel with the funniest M.F. award, and Olivia Wilde (in Michael Kors) enjoyed the night’s festivities alongside fiancé Jason Sudeikis. The 2013 Spike TV Guys Choice Awards air on Wednesday June 12 at 9/8c on Spike TV. Check out more from this weekend’s star-filled fetes in the gallery.

We love Amy Adams style! She’s “the master” (get it?!) of knowing what does and doesn’t work for her—a trick she picked up from her stylist, Cristina Ehrlich. “The thing is with her, and some of my other clients I’ve worked with for a long time, is that you can really the choices that we’ve made are streamlined and very clean,” the stylist explained at the New York announcement of her Guest Stylist partnership with Coldwater Creek. “You can just really see that she’s wearing the dress and that she feels confident in it. They’re all really done proportionally.” And this goes for her range of looks, from solid colors to peplum to prints (from left: floral-printed J. Mendel, an emerald sheath, two-toned Vionnet, and polka-dotted Jenny Packham). Your lesson: “[It’s about] going for a very timeless and classic sensibility,” the celebrity stylist advised. “It’s very straightforward and it’s very clean, so I think that’s why with Amy these looks really worked.” Try it tomorrow!

Cristina Ehrlich is Hollywood’s go-to expert for putting together solid outfits—she’s behind the some of Hollywood’s most stylish, including Amy Adams, Ashley Greene, Julianna Margulies, Tina Fey, and rising style star Allison Williams—which means she knows exactly how to pick pieces that have longevity. That’s why Coldwater Creek signed her up as their Guest Stylist for the next three months—and we caught up with her in the label’s New York store to get her keen eye on spring trends. Her biggest tip: Don’t be afraid of horizontal stripes. “I really want to help women understand that stripes do work on all body types,” she told InStyle.com. “There’s a sort of myth and fear that horizontal stripes are going to make you look bigger, and it’s really not true.” Instead, a horizontal stripe on top just needs a perfect pairing, she explained. “It’s about understanding how if have print on top that you have solid on bottom, or if you want to wear a printed bottom you wear solid on top.” Words that her clients Williams and Fey clearly live by!

Jennifer Lawrence (nominated for Silver Linings Playbook) is in billowing Dior Haute Couture, Amy Adams (nominated for The Master) stuns in a layered Oscar de la Renta gown, Jessica Chastain (nominated for Zero Dark Thirty) is wearing gorgeous, glittering Armani Prive, and Kerry Washington is walking the red carpet in beaded red Miu Miu. “I love cinema so much, and this dress is a very [Marilyn Monroe] ‘Happy birthday Mr. President’ thing—old Hollywood glamour,” Chastain told red carpet host Ryan Secrest.
