Hillary Clinton, Elton John and More Honored at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 12th Annual BenefitOct 16, 2013 @ 6:18 pm
Despite the weighty cause, Cipriani Wall Street was filled with positive energy at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 12th annual “An Enduring Vision” benefit in New York City Tuesday night. “We’ve come a long way in the 12 years since we first started doing this,” Sir Elton John told reporters alongside husband David Furnish, who seconded the sentiment. “When we started, we couldn’t see an end in sight, but because of the medical advances and treatment, we know now that treatment is prevention,” Furnish said. The couple have worked tirelessly to bring awareness to the fight against AIDS, and last night was no different, as guests like Allison Williams, Hillary Rhoda, and Donna Karan helped celebrate Hillary Clinton, Sandra Lee, and Elton John for their work in the fight against AIDS and HIV. The former Secretary of State was honored with the benefit’s first-ever Founder’s Award for her ground-breaking speech in Geneva, while Lee was presented with the Enduring Vision Award for her ongoing philanthropy toward the cause. John took home the Harvard AIDS Initiative Leadership Award for his long-standing fight against the virus. Although the evening recognized how far we’ve come, both Clinton and John emphasized how far we still have to go. “There are so many challenges in front of us,” Clinton said, speaking directly to the prejudices that those who suffer from the disease are faced with. “Humans may discriminate, but viruses don’t.” The evening concluded with an auction, which helped bring the night’s total sum raised to $3,450,000. And no Elton John fete would be complete without a little rock ‘n’ roll! The ladies of Heart took the stage for several rousing renditions of their classic hits, including “Barracuda” and “What About Love?”

Further confirmation that reptile accessories are one of fall’s top jewelry trends: The cool-blooded species slithered their way onto the red carpet and some A-list stars. Anna Faris and Allison Williams both unwittingly chose Fred Leighton jewels to exhibit their serpentine side, which happens to be right in line with the zodiac sign for 2013: the Year of the Snake (coincidence?). Faris pinned a 19th-century emerald and diamond salamander brooch on the back of her canary-yellow Monique Lhuillier gown and Williams slipped on a 19th-century gold and rose-cut diamond snake ring. Love it? Shop the trend starting from $40!

Surely we’re not the only ones with opinions on who looked great at last night’s Emmys — Kerry Washington in Marchesa, Claire Danes in Armani Prive, Zooey Deschanel in J. Mendel, Emilia Clarke in Donna Karan Atelier, and Allison Williams in Ralph Lauren landed in our Top 5 — so here’s your chance to opine on who you think should be named best-dressed from Sunday’s show. Check out the 22 looks featured in this week’s Emmys fashion A-List and pick your Top 5, which you can then share with your equally opinionated friends on Facebook and Twitter! Guiliana Rancic showed off her $1 million Forevermark ring for two hours during the Emmys 2013 pre-show, and that was just the start of the 2013 Emmys Bling Ring. The New Girl star Zooey Deschanel matched her pale blue Chanel ring to her J.Mendel gown, while Girls star Allison Williams layered on a 19th-century Fred Leighton pink topaz rock to her cobalt Ralph Lauren look. But the biggest sparkle came from — no surprise here — Sofia Vergara, who accessorized her cherry Vera Wang dress with a 40-carat emerald ring set in platinum. She added on another 21-carat diamond and platinum ring and earrings covered in over 100 total carats of rubies, sapphires and emeralds for a total look worth over $7 million.

How long does it take for a runway look to make it to an awards show red carpet? In the case of this year’s Emmys only ten days! Kiernan Shipka (in Delpozo), Kerry Washington (in Marchesa), and Jessica Paré (in Oscar de la Renta) all wore dresses that appeared on the catwalk during the spring 2014 shows at New York Fashion Week (that’s less than two weeks ago) with Allison Williams wearing a gown that was inspired by a look supermodel Karlie Kloss wore at the Ralph Lauren show. Talk about fast fashion! Click the photo above to see the fresh-off-the-runway dresses both at the shows and on the stars.
Last year, Girls star made her Emmys weekend debut with an especially big fashion moment—Oscar de la Renta dressed her exclusively. For her second go-around at tonight’s Emmys, she is confirmed to wear Ralph Lauren, though she did make sure to give a nod to who put her on the fashion map last year by wearing an Oscar de la Renta dress to yesterday’s BAFTA Tea, held at the SLS Hotel. Even better, her ODLR design was fresh off the runway — the piece just walked at New York Fashion Week the week before. “It’s just such a special treat to be able to wear it,” Williams told InStyle.com. “I thought it was appropriate for the occasion, and I really like that it’s technically a white dress with black polka dots, but it has a lot else going on.” She finished the look with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Louboutin clutch and Jacob and Co. bracelet.

As one of Hollywood’s go-to stylists, Cristina Ehrlich is in high demand, and with the Emmy Awards tomorrow, she’s got her hands full dressing not one but five leading ladies. “I feel very okay to tell you I’ve been working on this since the middle of July,” she told InStyle.com yesterday with a grin, while she sorted through jackets at the launch party to celebrate her collaboration with Jessica Paré and Veronica Beard in New York City. But the early bird really does get the worm— Ehrlich is done with all of her fittings. “All of them are coming together beautifully. I’m in really good shape.” So just who is she dressing this year? That would be Jessica Paré, Allison Williams, Tina Fey, Julianna Margulies, and Padma Lakshmi. And while her lips were sealed when it came to specifics, she did clue us in one what we can generally expect. “I really wanted to go outside of my comfort zone this year and push myself to really do something different with each one of them,” she said. “Jess is in a very different sort of silhouette, feeling, sensibility, and time frame from last year’s Jason Wu. But Allison is still just very fresh; Tina is still very sexy; Julianna is still very chic, and I think with Padma we always have a very specific sort of theme and I think we nailed it.” We can’t wait to see what they’ll be wearing. Be sure to check back here on Emmys night for all of the scoop — we’ll be blogging live as the stars make their way down the carpet.
