Tommy Hilfiger opened his 6,600-square-foot west coast flagship in Los Angeles last night, and there were plenty of stars on-hand to help him celebrate! InStyle cover girl Jessica Alba (in head-to-toe Hilfiger) and her husband Cash Warren co-hosted the night’s events, which included a cocktail party at the store opening on Beverly Boulevard, followed by a private dinner filled with tasty crab cakes, mini sliders, and other bites at West Hollywood’s Soho House. “It’s really easy when you have Tommy Hilfiger throwing the party,” Alba told InStyle.com of her duties. “You just show up and then you can relax!” And the New York designer brought a piece of the east coast with him—six-foot flat-screen TVs surrounded the patio, broadcasting Hilfiger’s New York Fashion Week runway show to the A-list Tommy girls, including Drew Barrymore and “Girl on Fire” Alicia Keys. Click through the gallery to see more stars who celebrated Tommy’s L.A. opening!

Feb 3, 2013 @ 7:33 pm

While Super Bowl XLVII is still underway in the Superdome, “Girl on Fire“ Alicia Keys helped open the game with her own patriotic pride. She performed a soulful rendition of the National Anthem seated at a gray piano to provide her own accompaniment. The star wore a full-length red Azzedine Alaïa dress while she sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” choosing gold Marina B jewelry and black platform heels as her accessories. She performed the iconic song in a way only she could: at a slow tempo with plenty of New Orleans jazz-inspired sultriness, and enough soul to bring even the toughest football players to tears on the sidelines.  Watch her belt out the song live above!

Why Alicia Keys Wrote on “Girl on Fire”… and She’s Happy You Like It

Jan 25, 2013 @ 11:47 am

Alicia Keys is a Girl on Fire! Last week, she was in Park City, Utah to support the film The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete as its executive producer and composer at the Sundance Film Festival, then she headed to Washington, D.C. to perform at the Presidential Inauguration in sparkling Michael Kors, and last night, she accepted the Best US Composer of the Last Decade honor at the 40 Principales Awards in Madrid. To top it all off—today is her 32nd birthday! She’s living an on-fire life, and she told us how important her now-megahit song “Girl On Fire” is to her (and to her fans) when we caught up with her at Sundance. ”It’s the coolest thing ever,” Keys told InStyle.com. “I identify with it because I wrote it from a piece of my life, and whatever I was going through and feeling. Then you see how many other people are relating to what you’re feeling, and they’re feeling the same thing. So that’s the cool part—when you see how we all are connected.” In honor of her special day, crank it up!

Watch This: The Girl Rising Documentary Trailer

Jan 23, 2013 @ 5:01 pm

“I will read. I will study. I will learn. If you try to stop me, I will just try harder,” Anne Hathaway says in the inspiring new trailer for the Richard Robbins-directed documentary Girl Rising, an exploration of how a proper education can change the lives of girls growing up in underprivileged communities around the globe—and consequently change the world. (It’s not the first time the Les Miserables star has taken on a girl-power cause!) The film takes viewers into the lives of girls from Africa to India, and illustrates how simply trying to go to school is sometimes a significant challenge. Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, Meryl Streep, Selena Gomez, and Cate Blanchett are just a sampling of the stars who lent their voices to the film, in addition to a haunting cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” by up-and-coming British singer Birdy, which also appears in the trailer. Watch the clip above and see the film when it hits theaters March 7th. And click here to find out how you can be more involved in the Girl Rising movement.
