Celebrities love Cushnie et Ochs! The Parsons-trained design team of Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs launched their sexy, body-con line after graduating in 2008, and quickly became industry darlings, winning the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award and becoming a finalist for the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Fund Award. It’s no surprise then how the pair’s structured, lightweight creations have wooed stylish stars, including Olivia Wilde, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Malin Akerman, who stood out in a vivid red design at the InStyle Summer Soiree last week. “I’ve kind of fallen in love with Cushnie et Ochs lately,” Akerman told InStyle.com. “All their stuff is just really cool and sleek. I’m obsessed!” And the designers are thrilled: “Seeing stars in our clothes is amazing,” they told InStyle.com, noting that empowering women is their ultimate goal. “Yes, [our clothes] are sexy and body con, but as female designers we construct our clothes to really support women and allow them to feel confident and comfortable when wearing them.” Click through the gallery to see more celebrities who love Cushnie et Ochs, and then shop for your own pieces at shopbop.com and ssense.com.
Looking for a way to bring spring’s popular posie-print denim into the summer season, we spotted three chic ladies who paired their floral jeans with crisp, clean tops. Stacy Keibler worked her rainbow-bright 7 For All Mankind florals with a white tank, Ashley Greene matched forget-me-not J Brand jeans with a sleeveless colorblock top, and Katy Perry paired her flowery Alice + Olivia denim with a black Peter Pan-collared button-up. If you’re trying the look yourself, go for a neutral tank like these ladies so your bold bottoms get all the attention. Roksanda Ilincic’s “Izumi” dress is a go-to dress this season. Princess Beatrice, 23, paired the British designer’s piece with sky-high cobalt Nicholas Kirkwood platforms and a pink Anya Hindmarch clutch at the 2012 Britain Creates party in London in June. The next week, Marisa Tomei took the style for a spin during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, where the 47-year-old actress matched the shift’s electric cuffs to her Aperlai peep-toes. “Women should follow their heart and feel comfortable in what they’re wearing,” Ilincic, shown inset, told InStyle.com. “You should feel empowered, and always add a personal touch—your own personality to the garment.” It looks like these ladies did just that! The style is available $1,300 at farfetch.com. Plus, see more stars who love Roksanda Ilincic in the gallery.
Celebrities love Prabal Gurung! It’s only been three years since the Singaporean-born, Nepalese-raised, New York-based designer launched his first collection, and his creations have become red carpet favorites, appearing on Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Sarah Jessica Parker, and more. “You hope rather than know that they’ll wear it,” he said of seeing his designs on Hollywood’s leading ladies. “I can’t even tell you what a pleasant surprise it is.” The love is mutual! “He’s one of my closest friends and I’ve been a witness to his growth the same way he’s been a witness to mine,” Zoe Saldana told InStyle.com of her designer pal. Gurung is known for his use of unconventional fabrics, like lacquered latex, iridescent neoprene, and laser-cut leather, as well as his sleek silhouettes with an avant-garde edge. This innovative spirit won him a $25,000 Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award in 2010, allowing him to show his collection on the New York Fashion Week runway for the first time. While his looks evolve from show to show, the designer keeps one thing constant: “The only trend you need for any season is a good heart and a great smile.” Good advice! Marisa Tomei, First Lady Michelle Obama, Claire Danes, Scarlett Johansson, and Rose McGowan are gravitating to prints this spring—all from the same British label, Preen. Launched by English duo Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi in 2001, the brand became famous for its sophisticated, cool designs and patterns, as exemplified by the women wearing them above. “Our prints say, ‘I’m modern, I’m sexy, I’m cool,” Thornton told InStyle.com. “We design them to offer women something they may not have worn before, but with this a sense of romance.” Even if you are tentative about the graphic look, Thornton has advice: “Mix them up with solids such as a simple jacket or pencil skirt, and then accessorize with minimal items,” he said. “Don’t be afraid of bold prints they make you look both current and appealing. They say ‘I’m interesting and fun!’” Preen is available starting at $240 at net-a-porter.com.

Celebrities love Honor! Medical-student-turned-designer Giovanna Randall launched the label in 2009, and her ultra-feminine creations have been red carpet regulars ever since, most recently appearing on Shailene Woodley at last night’s Los Angeles premiere of The Hunger Games. “They’re strong, but feminine,” Woodley, who often wears the label, told InStyle.com of Randall’s designs at Honor’s fall 2012 fashion show. “I like the fact that her clothes are feminine with a masculine touch.” Randall agrees: “I guess every woman wants to be the mix between being really ladylike and really tough,” the designer told us. “I think about that a lot when I design.” Randall describes her ideal customer as a “strong woman who isn’t afraid to be noticed, but does’t need to be noticed all the time.” It is a fitting description of her celebrity fan base, which includes Taylor Swift, Ahna O’Reilly, Kirsten Dunst, and more. After paging through thousands of red-carpet photographs from this year’s awards season, which just wrapped up with Sunday’s Oscars, we’ve noticed a popular designer emerge—Maria Lucia Hohan! Ashley Tisdale and Maria Menounos chose the Romanian designer’s clothes over Academy Awards weekend alone, while Stacy Kiebler and Jennifer Hudson also picked her elaborately draped and pleated gowns for red carpet events this year. ”It’s a dream come true, and I thank the universe for listening to my wishes and opening doors for me,” Hohan told InStyle.com of seeing celebrities in her line, which she first launched in 2003. ”My gowns are very glamorous, yet not too dressy, which is a nice combination.” Each of of her star-approved looks are handmade and shoppable on her website, mlh-shop.com. They run around $1,000 each and can be crafted in any color—including white, a great bridal option. See who else loves wearing Hohan’s designs in the gallery!
