Designer Double-Take: Princess Beatrice and Marisa Tomei Love Roksanda Ilincic

Jul 2, 2012 @ 2:05 pm

Roksanda Ilincic’s “Izumi” dress is a go-to dress this season. Princess Beatrice, 23, paired the British designer’s piece with sky-high cobalt Nicholas Kirkwood platforms and a pink Anya Hindmarch clutch at the 2012 Britain Creates party in London in June. The next week, Marisa Tomei took the style for a spin during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, where the 47-year-old actress matched the shift’s electric cuffs to her Aperlai peep-toes. “Women should follow their heart and feel comfortable in what they’re wearing,” Ilincic, shown inset, told InStyle.com. “You should feel empowered, and always add a personal touch—your own personality to the garment.” It looks like these ladies did just that! The style is available $1,300 at farfetch.com. Plus, see more stars who love Roksanda Ilincic in the gallery.

Celebrities love Prabal Gurung! It’s only been three years since the Singaporean-born, Nepalese-raised, New York-based designer launched his first collection, and his creations have become red carpet favorites, appearing on Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Sarah Jessica Parker, and more. “You hope rather than know that they’ll wear it,” he said of seeing his designs on Hollywood’s leading ladies. “I can’t even tell you what a pleasant surprise it is.” The love is mutual! “He’s one of my closest friends and I’ve been a witness to his growth the same way he’s been a witness to mine,” Zoe Saldana told InStyle.com of her designer pal. Gurung is known for his use of unconventional fabrics, like lacquered latex, iridescent neoprene, and laser-cut leather, as well as his sleek silhouettes with an avant-garde edge. This innovative spirit won him a $25,000 Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award in 2010, allowing him to show his collection on the New York Fashion Week runway for the first time. While his looks evolve from show to show, the designer keeps one thing constant: “The only trend you need for any season is a good heart and a great smile.” Good advice! Marisa Tomei, First Lady Michelle ObamaClaire Danes, Scarlett Johansson, and Rose McGowan are gravitating to prints this spring—all from the same British label, Preen. Launched by English duo Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi in 2001, the brand became famous for its sophisticated, cool designs and patterns, as exemplified by the women wearing them above. “Our prints say, ‘I’m modern, I’m sexy, I’m cool,” Thornton told InStyle.com. “We design them to offer women something they may not have worn before, but with this a sense of romance.” Even if you are tentative about the graphic look, Thornton has advice: “Mix them up with solids such as a simple jacket or pencil skirt, and then accessorize with minimal items,” he said. “Don’t be afraid of bold prints they make you look both current and appealing. They say ‘I’m interesting and fun!’” Preen is available starting at $240 at net-a-porter.com.

Celebrities love Honor! Medical-student-turned-designer Giovanna Randall launched the label in 2009, and her ultra-feminine creations have been red carpet regulars ever since, most recently appearing on Shailene Woodley at last night’s Los Angeles premiere of The Hunger Games. “They’re strong, but feminine,” Woodley, who often wears the label, told InStyle.com of Randall’s designs at Honor’s fall 2012 fashion show. “I like the fact that her clothes are feminine with a masculine touch.” Randall agrees: I guess every woman wants to be the mix between being really ladylike and really tough,” the designer told us. I think about that a lot when I design.” Randall describes her ideal customer as a “strong woman who isn’t afraid to be noticed, but does’t need to be noticed all the time.” It is a fitting description of her celebrity fan base, which includes Taylor SwiftAhna O’Reilly, Kirsten Dunst, and more. See who else loves wearing Honor in the gallery, and shop the collection at shop.honornyc.com, or at the designer’s New York store (68 Gansevoort Street).
