Instant Fashion Week Trend: Mixed Berries

Feb 17, 2011 @ 8:59 am

Reds, pinks and purples are the standout colors so far during New York Fashion Week‘s fall collections. Reds and pinks pop on the runway in rich shades of cherry, cranberry, and raspberry (shown left at Prabal Gurung), while  we’re seeing purples in vibrant plum and grape, as seen at Derek Lam (shown right). And not only have the hues stood on their own, but mixing them together in unexpected pairings offers a new twist on berry brights (shown center at Diane Von Furstenberg). Inside the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards

Jan 31, 2011 @ 11:13 am

Celebrities mingled at the cocktail reception during the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium. The crowd included Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen, who worked up the nerve to wear pants to an awards show in a jumpsuit by Catherine Malandrino, after expressing her desire to do so last year. Bowen caught up with co-star Sofia Vergara, who wore a bright blue Roberto Cavalli gown, inside the ceremony. See more stars inside the awards show in InStyle’s Parties gallery.

The People’s Choice Awards kicked off awards season last night with a burst of shine. Kristen Stewart tried the metallic trend with a gold Reem Acra look, Kim Kardashian opted for a strapless Catherine Malandrino dress, Vanessa Williams went for a darker hue in a dress by Tadashi Shoji and Lisa Edelstein chose a silver look by Farah Angsana, which shimmered as she accepted her award for Favorite TV Drama Actress. “I’ve never been nominated before, so I’m really honored,” she told us before the show. “What’s special is that it’s the fans voting.” And her fans often have interesting questions when they meet her. “One woman asked me if I wore aging makeup and a fat suit on television,” Edelstein said. “Which the answer is ‘no’ to both.” See all the red carpet looks from the People’s Choice Awards—including Jennifer Aniston, Natalie Portman and Katy Perry—in the gallery.

Just because Gossip Girl isn’t returning with new episodes until next year doesn’t mean that Serena, Blair, Nate, Chuck and Dan are completely off the radar. The hot young crew has been spotted all over New York filming new episodes, and given the chillier-than-usual temperatures, they’re bundling up in cute winter clothes. We’ve spotted Blake Lively piling on layers upon layers of shearling, scarves and long sweaters, including a Catherine Malandrino vest and jacket, for her role as Serena van der Woodsen, while Leighton Meester is rocking printed tights and ivory coats befitting of Blair Waldorf. (And are those Uggs we see on Blair?) We can’t wait to see what else these ladies wear when the show returns at 8 p.m. on January 24th! Check back here for all the insider fashion details.

InStyle Hosts Super Saturday With Ashley Greene & Kelly Ripa

Jul 29, 2010 @ 3:16 pm

Super Saturday is best described as a couture garage sale, but with celebrity guests and a tony Hamptons setting. InStyle has hosted the event with Donna Karan and Kelly Ripa for several years; this time, Twilight star Ashley Greene is set to join in. The 13th annual sale will stocked with merchandise from over 200 designers, including Diane von Furstenberg, Catherine Malandrino, Elizabeth & James and Giorgio Armani, and it’s all for a good cause: Proceeds benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. If you can’t make it to the Hamptons this weekend, QVC will be broadcasting the event from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. EST, offering viewers the chance to purchase a variety of items from the sale including apparel, accessories and beauty. Sounds super.

Come back on Monday for a full round-up of Super Saturday’s fashion, stars and shopping!

Mary J. Blige & Catherine Malandrino Design for a Cause

Jun 17, 2010 @ 11:47 am

Inspired by the success of their charitable T-shirt line, R&B icon Mary J. Blige and designer Catherine Malandrino debuted their new clothing collaboration, Malandrino + FFAWN, at N.Y.C.’s MoMA this week. 100% of the evening’s ticket proceeds ($1,000 a pop!) were donated to Blige’s FFAWN foundation (The Foundation of the Advancement of Women Now, Inc.), with a goal of raising enough funds to send a graduating class of seniors from the Women’s Academy of Excellence to college. Malandrino told us that the decision to expand their charitable efforts was “inspired by how music and fashion empower women.” The collection, which will be sold in Malandrino stores this November, was a combination of both women’s styles—sophisticated, rock and roll Blige and uber feminine Malandrino—and featured “strong minidresses, high-waisted pants, studded leather jackets and cool jersey tees.” Click on the gallery to see some of our favorite looks from the show.
